So in the last 9 months I have owned iphone 4 (ATT) Blackberry torch (ATT) dell streak (t-mobile) Motorola Atrix (ATT) and now finally the HTC-EVO (sprint) Im going to make this as short and sweet as I can. 8 mp camera averaging 5mbps in Pasadena ( I can tether via wifi also) I was getting about 1mbps with the motorola atrix on ATT's Fake 4g. (quick recap about this is that they claim 4g but in fact they are not rolling out their LTE (real 4g) for 1-2 years) Largest Screen RoboForm has an app ( I can log into just about every BPO company i work with and even edit the forms) android 2.2 is amazing Higher voice clarity then every phone Ive owned EXCEPT the blackberry torch. dropbox works great - I can take pics on the road, upload to drop box and by the time Im back at the office my assistant has already uploaded them for me. HDMI out - can play movies on my big screen google navigation (free) blows away att navigator which I was paying 9.99 a month for on ATT. unlimited data ( tmobile, verizon, att do not have unlimited data unless you were grandfathered in) phone stand is actuallly really useful. comes with a 8gb mini sd card (atrix did not, I dont remember with the others) I can even access full MLS Search from my companies website www.wealthrealty.orgYou can turn off 4g to converse battery ( atrix did not allow this) edit and view all google products better than any of the phones i owned prior to it. I took me about 5 phones in the last 7 months to figure it out...but I can honestly say that this is the BEST phone for any real estate agent that uses google products, and visits a high amount of bpo or reo sites. Anybody agree or disagree with me?

I'm not a phone geek and definately not one who needs the newest or best at all costs. That said I recently picked up Droid Incredibles for both the wife an I and we like them. Nice balance between size and performance. Got both for free after rebates from Verizon w/ unlimited data. We been with Verizon for many years and had no need to change yet. Agree the Goggle navigation is nice but will seldom use it as I have a Garmin thats much faster and easier to live with for a gps. My other car has built in NAV but the Garmin blows that away too from a functionality standpoint. Camera - could care less for the most part. I use real cameras most times for photos that matter but it's certainly handy to always have one with you.

Don't get caught up in the MP myth. While higher MP is helpful when you are printing images, especially large images (8x10 and higher), anything over 5MP is going to make very little if any impact at all. In fact, when you consider the screen size of a smartphone (3-4"), the higher MP camera will make 0 difference in the quality of the image you are seeing. But what about viewing on a large screen monitor you say? You likely won't see much improvement at all. Why? because your screen will scale the image for the resolution set. Therefore, unless you are running some super high resolution setting on your monitor and you have a large monitor 30" or higher, it is unlikely that you will see anything significant. If you are doing that kind of work, then you are better off getting a nice DSLR to capture high quality images. The more important factor for image quality is the image sensor used, not the MP count. Image quality from phones will vary depending on image sensors used, but phone guys do not use high dollar image sensors in phone so it don't expect some dramatic difference between phones and don't think that a higher MP count means a better picture, because it doesn't buy you anything from a smartphone perspective. It is just a check box marketing feature. Most people tend to assume bigger number means better, yet it is not really true.

@RT Chris,
No doubt. I think smartphones are a wonderful tool for any professional, real estate agent or otherwise. The value of a smartphone is not so much in the camera as it is in all the functionality it brings to the table. It is great to have a camera built into a phone for quick pictures, but if you rely on photos as a mainstream part of your business (like realtors), having a quality camera and a tripod is well worth the investment.
As an App Developer for smartphones, I am a big fan of both Android and iPhone platforms as they create unique opportunities to bring new, exciting products to market.
Now, I would say that each platform has it's advantages and challenges. Apple, love 'em or hate 'em, they do bring easy to use and an incredible experience to customers. They have a restrictive development environment so there is a good chance that your app will work as intended. However, it is also a pain because they (Apple) can limit your creativity and frankly downright block some useful ideas/apps. But then, the app store has soooo much to offer to customers, it is hard to beat that for just about anyone looking to get a smartphone.
Android on the other had is much more open and less restrictive on what you can do as a developer. However, there are sooo many different Android phone platforms, as a developer it is hard to test on all the variations to make sure you app will work on a wide variety of h/w. This creates a wild west atmosphere so consumers are more likely to run into bad apps than you would on an iphone. But then again, because they are sooo open, it attracts a lot of developers and is a big reason why Android Marketplace is growing by leaps and bounds and will likely catch iTunes in no time and likely pass them in the volume of apps available.

Thanks for the insiders insight. I really do like the open platform that the Android marketplace has setup but like you said, sometimes it's too open. I think it would really benefit from some quality control and moderation. I think one of the biggest problems developers for iOS run into is promoting their app and getting it in front of people. It's tough when you're competing with 300K others. Until recently, Apple's method of searching and finding new apps was archaic and aggravating.

That is true. I think many developers have the "If you build it, they will come" mentality. That is just not the case at all. To have a successful app, you not only need a good app, you have to have a marketing plan just as to have a successful business, you need a business plan.
We are set to release our first app here in about a month, we have solid ideas for marketing it, but I still don't expect it to drive significant revenue for the first year. It's going to take a lot of time to get the word out.

Let me know when the app goes live, I'd be interested in taking a look at it and demoing it out.

Sure thing. We are pretty excited about what we have going for this app. I have yet to find anything quite like it on iTunes.
We are targeting home buyers with it. It should prove to be a useful tool for buyers that are trying to track and evaluate the properties their agents are bringing to them.
Should be quite useful for agents as well to help them better understand what their clients are looking for in a home as well as get feedback on the homes they are showing their clients.

The Htc phones are great for any Realtor. I love my Htc Hero and all the apps. But will seek out a EVO soon.For the record Sprint service is also the best for any Realtor in their area. Please let me know what you think. if a better plan is out there let me know.

This Google Custom search may do a better job of searching the forums for some keywords than the old forum search does. The results do not include threads from the Asset Managers Forum however. To search that forum you will need to be actually in the Asset Managers Forum and you will need to use the old forum search below.
