Does anyone know where I can find a system that will allow me to ask the consumer to text me for more information and have an automated message be returned to them?

Check out Goomzee.com.
Our MLS uses it, but my broker has their own system so I don't know much about it.

If you are interested, text LEADS to 41242 and I can help you get set-up with a system that will return your listing info including photos, contact info and a mobile flyer for those with web enabled phones.

I would agree. Automated responses can be very impersonal and turn people away instead of actually helping them.
I ran a tech support team at a major silicon vendor supplying PC components to big OEMs as well as end consumers. We spent a lot of time looking for solutions to improve efficiencies, customer satisfaction, response times and we spent a great deal of money on it as well.
We had looked at several auto repsonse type solutions and most of them were pretty bad. The only auto response system I have seen that was actually decent was from a company called Kana. What made it good was the level of detail they were able to go into in examining the request and compiling an auto reponse that was uniquely directed at the incoming request. In other words, it was hard to tell that the auto response was an auto response and not from a live person.
Now, they target large corps with their solutions so I doubt it would be relevant here, but the point is that in most circumstances, auto responders will do more harm than good unless you spend a lot of money on a really advanced tool.
Now, if all you need is an auto responder to send out directions or office hours, that is one thing, but I would be leary of replacing personal contact with an auto responder.

One option is a QR Code that has the option of SMS to your cell phone: http://qrcode.kaywa.com/This is free. If you want to pay (or can pay) http://homecellers.com offers plans for texts. I have not used it yet but have heard good things about it. I am not associated with this company in any way.

This might be a dumb question but here goes.
So if a buyer texts requesting more information on a home, do you put them on a text drip campaign like you would if they registered by email? also is there an idx for sms?
thank you! mitzie

This Google Custom search may do a better job of searching the forums for some keywords than the old forum search does. The results do not include threads from the Asset Managers Forum however. To search that forum you will need to be actually in the Asset Managers Forum and you will need to use the old forum search below.
