hey guys, thanks for all of the valuable info so far. I have a quick question. I was born and raised in the town i live in. I know i need to learn about ny specific real estate market. I know that i can google, search and ask and a number of other things i thought i would just ask directly a few recommendations on where is a good place for the info. The one negative thing about the info age is that there is just so much. With that said thank you for some ideas. I see the importance of being an expert in the real estate market immediatelly around me.

your mls will be a good place to start. look back over the last 5 years and see where the most sales have happened, where sales seem to be increasing, where they are slowing down, where prices are holding steady or rising or dropping, what the average dom is, etc. That is your best place to find verifiable info.

Thanks perky< i had a feeling somebody would say that. I am inactive...until tomorrow that is, so I have not had accesss to the mls. I am excited because i have come to understand that that will be a huge source of info for questions that i have had up until this point. FYI i appreciate the responses. There is nothing that can replace a resource such as you and the others that have been around....thanks.

that's the only place you will find the sold data in an easy way. you could search courthouse/tax records but that could be cumbersome depending on how your systems are out there.

our mls has the realtor property resource thing but one county is down, and it's only as accurate as the mls data it pulls (some agents like to "mask" property info by taking out zeros or dots or dashes in tax id numbers...
