Does anyone know of a website that tells what the different zoning codes are? I've checked my county website with no luck. The code in question is R40 in Cherokee County,GA.

Why not try just picking up the phone and calling the zoning authority for that county??? It may be hard to believe but not everything is available on the net yet.

I'll take that as an "I don't know"! Obvisously, I can pick up the phone and call the zoning office, but that wasn't my question, was it?

You are correct, I have no idea how you would find out what R40 in Cherokee County,GA is on the www.
However if I wanted to know and could not find the answer on the Internet I would pick up the phone, call the appropriate zoning office, and ask.

You seem mighty touchy for someone asking for help. It's not "obvious" what you do or don't know. You'd be amazed at how many people don't know where to find information, so some of us try to give them reliable resources. James is great about "teaching people to fish". Seems like these zones are different in each area, but the resource he mentioned is going to be most reliable even if someone from your area chimes in. I tried to help by doing some research, but saw R40 as an "approved R40 conservation subdivision" on one site and then as a "potential commercial" in Woodstock. For people in Austin...here is the page from our City Zoning website. http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/development/zoning.htm

Dee,
Your right that it's not obvious what I do and don't know, but it is obvious that I can just call the county zoning office.
Also, I searched for over an hour before I posted here to try and find a site that has the info, but no luck. My county website is a little slow in the technology dept. Hopefully one day they will post what all the codes mean. It would just save a lot of time if there were a site that had all the codes listed and I didn't have to call everytime.
Thanks anyways...

Unfortunately codes can differ from county to county and state to state so the only way to know for sure is to call the county zoning office. Originally posted by MattyMatt: Dee,

Kinda funny I was wonderng the same thing the other day I called zoning and asked is they could fax me something with all the codes, I was advised that there were 180 pages of codes. The best part was the guy I was talking to is the son of one of the agents in our office. He is going to copy all 180 pages and send them in with his dad so we have a refrence fo in the office.

MattyMatt-
Your quote "Also, I searched for over an hour before I posted here to try and find a site that has the info, but no luck."
As Jim said, pick up the phone, call the Zoning Dept in your county and ask. Figuring you may be on hold for 5 minutes, (remember, you're calling a government office), that could have saved you valuable time. And you would get the correct info straight from the horse's mouth.

This Google Custom search may do a better job of searching the forums for some keywords than the old forum search does. The results do not include threads from the Asset Managers Forum however. To search that forum you will need to be actually in the Asset Managers Forum and you will need to use the old forum search below.
