So if I comment on other blogs in a legit. way it boosts both their blogs and my own?

Keep in mind that by default in all popular blogging platforms comments are given the "no follow" attribute to prevent the transfer of "link juice" so there is no ranking benefit to commenting on blogs.
The proliferation of links in blog comments is the reason "no follow" was invented by Google and adopted by other search engines. Commenting is a waste of time if you are doing it to try and improve your ranking.

I'm reading and trying to understand. Linking to the thread "How To Tell If A Link Exchange Is Worth It" appears to be an internal link... I think I'm learning. It is navigational though, and in the SEW article he said about internal links, that "The most effective internal links are blended seamlessly within article, are not navigational, and are not clustered at the end of the content. "

in the SEW article he said about internal links, that "The most effective internal links are blended seamlessly within article, are not navigational, and are not clustered at the end of the content. " What they mean by "Navigational" is links that are on the site's navigation menu. Having links appear on the navigation menu is a way of telling Google what the major sections of the website are and really there should only be a small number of links on the navigation menu. Some template sites put pretty much every page of the site on the navigation menu and that is not desirable. The site should have a hierarchy - essentially clustered into sections - with not all pages being treated the same. The navigation menus should really just have links to the sections - and not links to the pages within the sections. Clustering the links at the end of the content can make the links "navigational" as well. Also, content and links higher up on the page are given more weight. It is worth keeping in mind that Google only "reads" the first incidence of a link to another page (or another site) that appears on a site's page and that would be the link that is highest in the code (not necessarily the visible page). This includes links that are on the navigation menu (which usually have the least effective link text) which is another reason to limit the number of your navigation links. If you have links on the navigation menu and other links to the same destination within the content of the page - only one will count and it may not be that carefully crafted keyword rich link that you hoped would improve ranking. All of the above applies for all links - internal and external. Putting external links on the navigation menus creates problems on a different scale and should be avoided at all costs if the sites are about similar subjects.

Great advice! If you are commenting on blogs, be sure that it is a dofollow site. If you are unsure of how to know this, the easiest way is to download the plugin on Firefox browser, "DoNoFollow" and then use this tool for searching sites that allow follow. (Google, "Donofollow" to find a good site with specific instructions)
Your anchor text will make a difference - for example, when inputting information in the name section of the comment box, instead of using my name, "Dan Rochon", I use a term that I would like to promote on Google such as, "Virginia Short Sales". Some bloggers will not approve a comment with an SEO friendly term (instead of your name), but as long as you are providing relevant useful information, thy are more likely to welcome your comments. Remember - Always provide value. Best of luck all!!

I have gone from 0 to about 25mph in a few months. I have posted regularly for almost 3 months. I have traffic which averages out to about 3 visits per day. I have peak days of about 30 hits and some with no hits. Traffic is increasing. Feedback is positive. Least (but some) of my hit are search engine hits, most of the hits is facebook traffic from my sphere. I have a question about a repeat visitor I am getting, statsactive.com/counter. Does this mean I am being visited regularly by the search engines?
Also I have put links to my favorite posts in my email signature. I am not certain how those show up.
Thanks for any feedback.

statsactive.com/counter would have nothing to do with search engines.
Your blog is being spidered by Google though. Except for your most recent post - all of your posts are listed in their index. You might want to change your blog title to reflect your market area - that may help you appear for more relevant keywords for those interested in real estate in your area. The changed blog title will then also influence how your posts rank in Google.

Thanks Doug. I will give that a try. Others have suggested that and I never got to it. I appreciate you taking the time out to look into it.

Does this work the same for a Ping back comment? I read some place that if you have a blog it is better to comments on your own blog and Ping back to the comment to the blog your commenting on. That way traffic on your blog will see your comment as well as people visiting the blog your commenting on. However I have never actually done this yet.

persomally i find it difficult to comment on blogs because some of the blogs i find on google search are mostly not updated. i prefer writing my own blogs than commenting on other peoples blogs.

This Google Custom search may do a better job of searching the forums for some keywords than the old forum search does. The results do not include threads from the Asset Managers Forum however. To search that forum you will need to be actually in the Asset Managers Forum and you will need to use the old forum search below.
