Is it worth buying a light to put on your listing signs? How many agents use this technique for maximum home exposure and to professionally market themselves 24/7. Does this work? Do you gain more leads?

Thanks Everyone!!

Speaking as someone who is not eager to spend my money needlessly: I think it would be a total and complete waste of money.

I've never used them, but I truly don't see any GENUINE need for them except perhaps for a commercial listing or perhaps a luxury listing.

I think you would be more likely to annoy the home owner and the neighbours if you put a light on your sign. Something you should avoid at all costs.

I wouldn't do it but if you do I would recommend only using a solar light. If you run an electric cord through someones yard many times when the cord gets wet it will pop the breaker and even worse case scenario...what happens if someone trips over the cord or someone gets shocked by it.

local town zoning codes might apply and stop you depending upon their criteria.

If you are talking about the "Listing Lights" that are advertised, I will tell you that I tried them for awhile. The batteries die MUCH TOO SOON and they easily break when the winds pick up. Not worth it after I tried them. A better investment is custom aluminum signs that glow brightly when hit by headlights. They are much more cost-effective than the listing lights. They also look better during the day.

I've used those solar fueled flyer boxes that numerous sites sell. Not the same effect but they are kinda cool. someone needs to market a solar fueled attachable spotlight for signs...or maybe they already have...my buyers really liked the solar flyer boxes..but they disappeared..others like them too

I like this idea. How much more expensive are they then regular signs and where can you get them?

I would go with the reflective aluminum signs as well; they'll actually be much more visible to passing cars than a comparatively feeble light. They seem to run maybe $20-30 more for the reflective finish than a standard non-reflective aluminum sign, depending on the size and the vendor. (I did a quick check on Oakley Sign's website and that seemed consistent with my recollections.)

I got mine from Dee Signs. A good deal more expensive than regular signs, but I have found they last longer, they do not bend and curl at all, and just look great both day and night. You can also integrate your rider into the sign itself, so you don't have to order riders.

I have never tried this, but I am not sure why you think this is a bad idea Perky. I actually think it is a great idea! Here in Boston this time of year, it is completely dark before most people even get off of work. Even though the signs are illuminated by headlights as vehicles drive by, I could see special lighting under the sign drawing a lot of extra attention. The custom aluminum signs seem like a good investment as well.

I think it's not worth the investment or time, and apparently according to Navarac, it is not very reliable anyway. I see it as throwing good money for bad. Many realtors seem ready to jump on every new thing to come down the pike - I'm not so willing to throw my money or time away when the best way to sell a house is a good price and having good info online.

I have tried solar powered listing signs in the past. For example, during the say time, a solar panel would charge a battery that powered LED lights casting downward onto the listing panel. It was more "cool" than anything...well, that is until the lights stop working a few weeks into the listing. Almost always the lights stopped working. So while it was a novelty for the sellers in the beginning, it became a hassle for me (the listing agent) because I would get calls saying "the lights are out again." Frustrating...

I'm taking things a tad off topic, (can't start a new post yet), but what about sign toppers with text numbers to get info about the listing, which delivers the cell number to you, the agent? My brokerage partnered with a service offering this, and is recommending it to us. It costs $15/month for unlimited listings....have to buy the toppers though, (reusable, I think). Anybody tried this? Getting any leads?

Yes,but you can't be afraid to call that number and try to get them into the office.
