13 Tips To Increase Traffic With Twitter

Twitter is one of the greatest social media sites on the web. There are thousands upon thousands of twitter users, and you can generate a big share of this traffic if you know how.

Twitter allows you to post any link from the web along side with a description for a total of a 140 character limit. When posting on twitter, you can gain “followers.” Followers are people who keep up with your posts. These people don’t necessarily keep up with everything you post, but they are informed of your latest updates.

The following are 13 tips to increase your twitter traffic.

Twitter Tips #1 Add A Picture

Add a profile picture. A picture is a great way to tell people that you are dedicated. It builds recognition, curiosity, and is a great way to earn people’s trust. Every time people see your face or icon, they will see something they recognize; something they can trust. The sole reason of recognition may entice them to click on your posts. Especially if they know you put out great content. Chances are, you will gain more followers for uploading a picture.

A picture always sticks out!

Twitter Tips #2 Article Titles For Tweets

Make the topic or description of your tweets the same as you would for an article title. This will generate interest and more views.

Twitter Tips # 3 Be An Expert

Know your field. Learn the faq on the categories of your niche. Try to be perceived as an expert in your field of knowledge. The more knowledgeable you become, the better the advice you can share, and the more people will look at you as an expert.

Twitter Tips #4 Hot Topics

Write about topics that will be interesting to your specific community. Attention grabbing posts are the way to go. Look out for the latest news in your niche and use these hot topics as posts!

Twitter Tips # 5 Add Value

Generally speaking, make sure you post some valuable stuff! The more worthy your tweets, the more people will want to see what you have to put forth.

Twitter Tips #6 Common Interest

Best idea is to follow people of whom you share a common interest. I like internet marketing so I would follow people who also like internet marketing. This will better your exposure on twitter. People you find interesting will most likely find you interesting.

Twitter Tips #7 Be A Higher Figure

This is more of a general tip, but be professional. Be friendly and respectful, and never show anger. Be mature and act as an authority figure.

Twitter Tips #8 Don’t Be Selfish

Benefit the people. Do not post for the sole sake of selling products. Provide some value to your viewers if you want people to continually follow you. Remember, people can “unfollow” you anytime they want.

Twitter Tips #9 Self Control

Do not “overtweet.” Posting too many links may cause your followers to “unfollow” you. You can use your twitter stats to see if someone has stopped following you. This will give you a good idea if you are keeping your tweets at a good level. About 3-4 tweets a day should be a reasonable amount.

Twitter Tips #10 Use Tweetburner Perhaps

Tweetburner enables you to shorten your tweet urls. This will give you more space for a description. You can track click stats with tweetburner, helping you find out which tweets are more effective; or rather, which tweet strategies are working best. With this knowledge, you can tweak your “tweets” for the more traffic generating potential. It also will give you the timings of day which you tweets are clicked, which also may be helpful.

Twitter Tips #11 Duplicate Posts

Some people who use twitter notice that posting the same “tweet” within time frames during the day helps exposure. Posting the same tweet up to four times a day may help increase views, especially if your followers have tons of other followers not to mention tons of other updates.

Twitter Tips #12 Increase Followers

Increase your followers by adding followers of your own. It is most probable that those you add to follow will add you back.

Twitter Tips #13 Beyond Twitter

Generate more “tweets” by adding an RSS feed to your web pages; another good way to increase your followers and promote your content.

These are my twitter tips for you. I hope you enjoyed.

I can always use tips on Twitter! Thanks! I just started using it in the last 2 months and have managed to get some what of a "following"... I follow 149 people and have 64 followers. I only tweet about once or twice a week. Once I start updating my blog weekly, I'll probably tweet about that as well.

How often do you guys tweet on average?

I've been having fun w/Twitter, posting random things that express my personality and a few wise things that get retweeted and that makes me happy.

Most fun is listing people, imo. I put the webcam whores on my "seriouslymisguidedgirls" list and spammers on my "spammerssux" list and the good and decent people get "goodanddecentpeople" listed, cops and firemen get "heros" etc.

I'm really inconsistent with Twitter. Sometimes I don't tweet for months, but lately several times a day. I'm thinking I'll set Twitter up to automatically post my Tweets to my new Facebook real estate page.

When I hold an open house, I usually every twenty minutes tweet a pic of different rooms/parts of the house along with the hashtag "open house" "DC" and the zipcode of where the property is located. I know you're wondering about the issue of safety, I make it a point to constantly be in contact with the listing agent I may be doing the open for, and my managing broker of my office knows where I will be holding an open, not to mention the owners have no problem making it known to me if they're going to be far for the few hours or not...be creative guys!!

Let me know if you have any questions

Thanks for the tips. I can use as many tips as I can get. My goal of being re-tweeted is hard to obtain. I have to find something interesting enough to be worth re-tweeting.

I hadn't heard of tweetburner before. That's pretty cool. I just used it to shorten a link.

Thanks again.

Twitter is a great resource for creating relationships with other agents across the country. I know of MayaREGuru and SoldInthecityDC from their posts on Twitter. I have learned much from my Twitter friends and hope that I have contributed to others.

I hear a lot of people talk about twitter and how effective it can be, but I haven't heard of anyone with consistent first-hand results from posting their. Has anyone here had a consistent amount of leads that pay for the time spent?

I think it's like anything else in social media....I don't think you can really measure it for consistant predictable results.

My idea for twitter was to befriend and chit chat w/ other agents in my free time in hopes of building a good referral relationship. has not happened because i just don't have time to tweet.

but the thing is, google indexes tweets. so every time you tweet a blog or a link on your website (if you do it smartly w. SEO in mmind) it will be "out there" for someone to find.

I'll tell you who I don't make a point of following back, are people with no Bio! It doesn't have to be as full and complete as mine, but it should have something!

Whenever a new marketing platform emerges, we tend to come up with the most straightforward way of using it without really knowing if it is the most effective.

In the case of Twitter, we usually assume that the best way of using it for marketing/selling is to create accounts and grow your followers, tweet "interesting things", etc. That may somewhat effective in rare situations, but the effort and ROI is huge and minuscule respectively. This works for Britney Spears, not real estate professionals.

A different way of looking at Twitter is as a vital piece of your overall Internet marketing strategy. Promoting yourself may be effective in certain situations, but when others are promoting you, the effect is much greater.

One example of how to get others to promote you is if you have a blog, integrate Twitter into your posts so that readers can tweet that they read your stuff and liked it, as well as provide a link. In this case they are doing your marketing for you, and their followers are more likely to visit your blog if it was recommended by one of their friends rather than you telling them directly. People listen to their friends, not to people who are trying to sell them something, even if you're good at masking it.

This type of strategy can be used on any type of internet presence besides blogs. It can be applied to your website, your online listings, online classified ads, or anything else that is web-related.

The goal is to let others promote you, as that is where the power of social media lies.

Also, the key is to make your various online promotional efforts leverage off of each other (ex: blog -> twitter) to achieve maximum benefit.

Agree/disagree? I'd like to vet my theory.

So two weeks ago someone on Twitter casually tweeted me and asked where a good place in St Paul for a young couple would be to live. I seized the moment and engaged with this stranger. Turns out she is just looking to rent, but I will be meeting with them soon. This is the first time I haven't gotten business from Twitter. Yay!

Great tips! I especially agree with "don't overtweet" and "don't be selfish"... if you are posting too often and posting not helpful or interesting information people are more likely to "unfollow" you. Once you have established yourself as an expert that is when tweets can turn into leads!
