Your local public library, bookstores, and online bookstores have literally hundreds of books on investing in real estate.

You might also check around your area to see if there are any real estate investment clubs so you can get some local background before taking the purchasing plunge.

Make sure you have an experienced team of real estate professionals on your side to help you make wise decisions and a wise purchase.

I agree with what Jim has suggested you. One more thing as an investor I would do is see if the money is worth investing in Condo or Row house or Townhouse in the same neighborhood.
Sometime the percentage of return is higher on different style of houses.
