I thing putting a banner up at your gym would be a great idea, however, it depends on the cost. Also, the members from your gym probably live in the same city and its surrounding areas. Do you farm the neighborhoods around the Gym? I think mail marketing combined with a banner at the gym will help build recognition.

This may be the same thing, but how are you going to differentiate yourself from the other agents? What do you do differently? You'll need to establish a value proposition to present in your message.

Just my take, waste of money. Tried many "things" like this over the years with no response.

Details for the ad:
Price: $700.00
$700 is probably less than a lot of people pay for there annual membership! The price seems right since you should only need 1 deal to recover your costs. To get value out of it your going to need to remember your working when you go to the gym and use your ad to start conversations and meet people (new clients).

If you want to spend the $700, go for it. But it's so easy to get excited about advertising that "will pay for itself with one sale" and find yourself several thousand dollars poorer and nothing to show for it.
Just ask yourself if you would call someone off a banner at your health club if you needed a real estate agent. I wouldn't. If I don't know the person and don't recognize their name (because they do a lot of business in the area), the banner would be meaningless to me.
A friend of mine just spent $3000 to be the "featured" agent in the local City magazine - and got NOTHING from it. She's feeling pretty silly right now for falling for the idea that "one deal will pay for it."
I could think of better ways to spend my $700, but if it's burning a hole in your pocket, it won't hurt to give it a try.

Great point. Rather than investing in passive media like the sign that you describe, that $700 dollars could be used to...
- Mail over a thousand post cards to a highly targeted group of households once or a smaller group multiple times
- Buy hundreds of affordable (small) note pads, ink pens or other items with your logo to use as leave behinds while face-to-face with prospects
- Take breakfast, lunch or pastries to the police department, fire station or local nursing homes along with flyers of (yes, here it is again) your unique value proposition (UVP)
You're at the gym anyway. Why not work into a conversation with someone how your UVP helped solved a problem. I do this all the time at places like the bank (makes my wife sick...until the commission check clears that bank).
Gotta go. Just talked myself into some great ways to promote my own business.

when im off, i dont talk re! when i go to the gym, i want to be at the gym. i love this business, but i love my time too. teh reason why i work so hard is so that i can really enjoy my time. i dont want to go to the place that i pay to stay in shape and have to prospect. there are better ways to prospect.
700 dollars would pay for more tahn a year of redx and you can have conversations with strangers anytime you want. do that for 1 hour a day at the office and you'll make your money back.
hoping somoene will call you is passive. figure out what it takes to get teh information taht someoen wants to sell and have a conversation with them

if he spent 500 bucks on redx and 200 bucks on a dialer(200 would cover 2 months of my dialer subsctiption) and spend 1 hour on the phone per day, i would say that the op should be able to get 2-4 solid leads per day.
i have advertised on other mediums before and i can only answer the op's question "What do you guy's think about advertising at the gym?" based on my experience. i know that i can track and replicate what i do and i cannot say the same for having a banner.
advertising with your name? get a listing and see how many calls that gets. its more specific tahn a banner with a name and number.
i would not spend 700 on it. it's not because i'm cheap. i spend over 4k per month on my business. closer to 5k, but it all has a return. i cant rationalize the return on the 700 as it is not really proven in my business plan so i cant speak outside of my own experience on spending 700 on a sign.

I have owned various businesses for years before getting into real estate. Advertisers LOVE you and dislike me.They know they can't sell junk to the experienced. All advertisers look monthly for the fresh meat at the business licensing office. They will hit them up for their start up capital and then it will be off to the next victim. The last thing I would want to see while working out in the gym is advertising. It is not allowed where I go to workout. You would do much better mailing to expired's or fsbo's with a unique offer with a handwritten address on the outside of the envelope. Your results would be much through the roof if you set it up right. Targeted marketing always outpulls and performs blanket marketing provided that the offer is good in both mediums. What WOULD be a good example of a banner would be CLIF BARS provide 23 grams of protein, help to lose weight, and give you plenty of vitamins. Start losing weight and get healthy www.clifbars.comMention this banner and get 10% off. I would shorten this way down but the point is this might get results as it is targeted to the people working out. I just think you are making a mistake.

How does taking breakfast or lunch to a police department, fire department etc. work for real estate?
Can someone explain this please? Yes, "SOMEONE" will gladly explain that to you. Employees of law enforcement (in fact, all protectors including military), healthcare and others can get up to $7,500 in Georgia down payment assistance to buy either their first home or a move-up home, but very few agents are promoting these programs and many officers to whom I've spoken rarely know anything about them. The strategy, of course, is to develop a relationship, hopefully gain agreement to present at a morning meeting and ultimately serve a worthy and needy client. So regardless about anyone's opinion about down payment assistance, we know that incentives work and will often get buyers off of the fence. No one said anything about breakfast or lunch, just a quick pastry. "SOMEONE" will be a bit more clear next time.

Teachers here get the same benifit. I found sponsering a kids little league sport is effective also. A couple hundred dollars, show up at a few games with snacks, meet the parents, pass out cards.

The gym I go to is Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and has over 5000 members. The average age is in the 30`s and it's a good ratio between men and women (about 65/35).
I want to advertise at my gym with a banner, which includes my name, contact information, broker's logo and of course my slogan etc. Considering that the gym is less than 3 KM's away from my office and the area I work in, it's a good place to get my face and name out.
What do you guy's think about advertising at the gym?
Any experiences? I vote for giving it a try. It is only $700 and it is deductible, right? You never know what is going to work or not work until you pull the trigger. It's a visibility play and these generally work well over time. Just make sure the banner is absolutely good looking and professionally produced. If it's cheesy, it will actually hurt you.

Sometimes it's a long incubation period for this kind of advertising.
When my son was 8 years old, his LL team was sponsored by a roofing company. The grandson of the team owner also played on the team.
Fast forward 30 years later, my son needed a new roof and he called that company. Of course, now the grandson is the job site foreman. But he never would have known about that company if not for the LL team 30 years ago.

I agree with Super, as I usually do. If you don't put an offer on it that is great it will be a waste of time. Think about it, if you were joe blow in a gym thinking of buying or selling a house are you gonna go with the guy on the gym banner or ask a friend? You need to put a "unique value proposition" on it if anything. For an EXAMPLE ONLY, as mentioned in another thread..." Your home sold in 100 days or I'll buy it/or sell it for free" ..... Do Something...

This Google Custom search may do a better job of searching the forums for some keywords than the old forum search does. The results do not include threads from the Asset Managers Forum however. To search that forum you will need to be actually in the Asset Managers Forum and you will need to use the old forum search below.
