i just grabbed a software called MaxiVista. You can google it. Basically, it uses your network to access another computer, and you can use that other computers monitor as a second or third.



The one on the right is actually connected to my laptop. The one on the left however, is actually connected to a different computer entirely. Here is a little video I made for it:

The other program I talk about on the video is called Ultramon. Its a software used to get the most out of multi monitor setups. Ultramon is cool bc not only does it allow you to move windows from screen to screen without dragging and dropping, it gives each monitor its own toolbar, so that whatever window is on the monitor, its also in the monitors toolbar, and not clogging up your main monitors toolbar.

I have to agree - the additional productivity and convenience of having additional monitors (particularly in our industry) far outweighs the setup cost.

I actually have Ultramon too. Several Mills actually use it. Great program. I recommend it to anyone who doesn't use a TV for a monitor (like me)

Seriously, I've been on three monitors for awhile and I don't know I ever did it before with two......or one......

I am blown away by this...thanks for sharing, I am always shrinking screens, toggling and trying to get things just right.I use one monitor and have an extra laptop. think I will add it to th mix.

My video card supports two monitors, so I have two 23" lcd's.

I do not think you need that with this software.....does not matter how much capacity your video card has.

I have two desks - and neither one looks like that. I have no where to put another monitor - but you have got me thinking I might need to clean off my desks.

As long as your video card is newer then you just need the split cable to hook in both moniters with the ultramon software. As far as expense goes it actually is very reasonable considering the beneifts such as being able to pull up your MLS screen on one side and the DE page on the other so you can quickly copy and paste. With shortcut keys and hot keys you could probably cut your data entry time down quite a bit. And since a decent size flat screen at your local Costco or Sams club usually will run between 199.00 and 300.00, it's well worth the investment I think.

How is the refresh rate on monitor #3?

sometimes it drags a little. but really, im not doing too much on that monitor anyways. i really just use it to put my pictures window and tax windows on so i dont have to minimize and maximize over and over.

King, Thank you so much for the info. Being old my programming skills are back in the days of COBAL. So, if you would be so kind as to share, how do I reformat so that I can turn the other monitors 90 degrees and see the info properly. I am hoping others here are curious about this as well and I am not the only dinosaur left.

Also, what do you thing about using a big screen TV to do the same thing without 3 monitors?

Im not sure that I understand the question about formatting for the sake of monitor placement. You should have to format anything, the software will take care of all that.


But I might not be understanding the question right.

As far as the TV idea, I just heard this week about a guy doing just that, with a touch screen. Basically had 4 full screens all on 1 big screen. The only thing I dont like about that, is that you are still going to be minimizing and maximizing a lot.

I need some advise. I need a second monitor or bigger monitor with a split screen. My desktop does not have anywhere for me to plug in the second monitor. So, I guess I have to add the plug. I am not too computer savvy so am not sure if this is my best option.

I am also considering getting a large moniter and upgrading to windows 7 to be able to split the screen.

Is it hard to add the plug for the second monitor?

If I go with a split screen how big of a monitor do I need to be able to view two pages at a time?

Adding the second plug is actually quite simple however, one wrong move mixed with some static electricity will leave you wishing you had paid a professional. I recommend taking your computer to bestbuy or your local computer store. It shouldn’t cost more than $250 for the new video card and instillation. You will also need to purchase the other monitor as well (again not more than $250). If you have an older computer and are looking to upgrade to windows 7, buying a new computer (with 2 plugs) might be a wiser investment. You probably find that a new $200-$400 computer is light-years better than your current computer.

You don't need to add viso cards, just add a vga splitter for less than $10. Find them on ebay with a quick search

I use three monitors but haven't heard of Ultramon. Thanks for sharing, would love toolbars on each screen! I have my desk sitting against a wall and thinking about wall mounting the monitors to have more desk space.
