Ok well short story is this... the real estate agent who sold me my house said that i should get into the business because she thought i would make a good agent. but i didnt have the time or money to do classes... fast foward a yr later. I see her again and this time she owns her own business now and is willing to pay my schooling and license fees so that i can become an agent. Now i dont know if Im just being cynical but does this ever happen to people? Or should I be looking for a motive lol. She is very nice and I like her alot and she is very successful. she has been in the game for a long while and everyone who she sells to loves her.. including me when she sold me my house. my classes start next week and im really excited about them... im just scared this all just might be too good to be true. what do you think??

im just scared this all just might be too good to be true. It's really not that big of an investment . . . . especially IF it's in someone she trusts to be sincere. And she must sense a degree of loyalty in you. All you can do is do your best and make sure that her confidence in you is not misplaced . . . . one of Life's heavier burdens. Good Luck !

If it's something you are interested in then go for it. She is probably trying to build her business and thought of you as a good candidate. I would take this as a compliment.

I think I would try to put myself in her place and ask, "what do I stand to gain by spending money on this person's behalf".I guess is she is legitimately trying to help you, but at the same time, hopes that such generosity would instill a sense of indebtedness, loyalty or whatever. It sounds like she's being sincere in saying that you would make a good agent. She probably wants you to work for her. Depending on what commission split she'd be willing to offer, it might be worth it. So long as you're not under contract to repay her you probably can't go wrong by taking her up on the offer.

My guess is she sees something in you that makes her want to have you in her office. I am sure she is taking you on as an agent because she thinks you will succeed. If you look at this from her side - she is putting time and money into you - and if she is doing that - she knows you will bring something to the table. Most smaller brokers are not "machines" they do not just want agents to fill the space and give them money, they want positive people that will work hard as agents, make the office a nicer place to be. She is building her brokerage and you are part of that. Seems like a very positive step for you. You are lucky that a broker has take such and interest in you - one with a good sales record and people skills. Not only is she helping you with your classes but it sounds like you have someone to mentor you too. One of the biggest things in real estate is to learn how to read people - or you can be taken for a ride by a seller or buyer. Real estate classes don't teach you this - so once you pass I would suggest that you shadow her - offer to help her in anyway you can so you can learn from her. My first 7 months were in a terrible brokerage - I thought I was doomed as an agent - then a met an office manager for CB who had what you are describing in your broker. I sold 2 houses in my first six months, 4 in a year and I know I am the agent I am today because of her. I left that office after 2.5 years, she had moved up the corporate latter and I moved on too. I still see her at board events and thank her every time I see her. Good Luck.

Go for it. You have nothing to loose. Now a days everything cost money, but if she is willing to pay for the couses, it must be that she saw sucess in you. You will probably become an asset to her company and that is why she probably is paying for your course.

Since she knows you, that's why she's willing to take the chance on you. If it was just a random broker providing that, make sure you see what they get in return...it might not be all it's cracked up to be.

This Google Custom search may do a better job of searching the forums for some keywords than the old forum search does. The results do not include threads from the Asset Managers Forum however. To search that forum you will need to be actually in the Asset Managers Forum and you will need to use the old forum search below.
