Which Real Estate companies in Los Angeles are highly recommended and have ongoing training for agents? I am thinking about changing brokers, but don't have a clue where to go. Anyone have any advice.

You really need to interview local brokers and ask them.

I could say "Weichert gives great training" because my particular office does - my broker and his partner are very hands on and very involved with the agents. However, you could end up working for a Weichert office that has an absentee broker and everyone is on their own...

Each franchise office - Century 21, Coldwell, Re/Max, etc...is independently owned and operated. Each one will be run different from the others of the same name.

Perhaps you need to look to a small independent brokerage.

Ultimately your success is up to you. Though our office has excellent training, only a small handful of agents actually benefit from it...many don't even take advantage of it...

What's wrong with your current Broker ?

What promises were made but left unfulfilled ?

Did you perform up to their expectations ?

Do you currently operate under a quota system ?

Do you have any Listings or Deals in the Cooker ?

Do you expect to take them with you, or be paid in absentia ?

What is it about the current situation that causes you to feel the need to make a change? If you don't know, you may just be bringing those same problems along with you. Some Agents refuse to look in the mirror and will blame all of their problems on externalities.

The most important thing is the training. I am looking for the best training that is available. I heard Keller Williams is the place to go for the training????

We have the best training in our office. It is called OJT.

Training is overrated for success purposes. You do a lot in the beginning to get traction and then maintenance to keep up with trends and raise your expertise level.

Not all training is equal or accurate.Getting trained the wrong way can be more devastating than no training at all. The reason is you now have to UNTRAIN the bad habits. This is why picking a company correctly is critical in the beginning to your success.

Now IMPLEMENTATION of what you learn on a CONSISTENT basis is where 90 percent of agents fail.

Remember this: "Knowledge is not power"

The truth is: "APPLIED knowledge is power"

You can learn new things but if you never put them into action on your business and test and track the results you just wasted what you learned.

I may need to change companies / brokers too as my current company may be closing up shop. To me it's a hassle to start the search process.
What information do potential new brokers look at or have available to them in making their decision to have you sign on?
I ask because my previous broker (before current one) and I didn't see eye to eye on some things and I was concerned that maybe he bashed me or put a negative opinion of some sort in a system about me.
My production isn't high as I mainly buy, rehab, sell fixer uppers and sometimes do only a few per year so maybe that's not attractive to brokers. I also do some bpo stuff when possible.

I've worked for KW, and I think they're OK. I think the other majors also have training programs. Now I work for a 100% broker, and with the money I save on commission splits, I could hire a personal coach. If you want more information, send me a pm or email.

I work for Keller Williams in West Los Angeles and we have a ton of training. We also partner with other KW offices for training and classes, there is always something going on. I have been with KW for almost 3 years and don't have any complaints!!! Before coming to KW from RE/MAX I intervied a lot of offices/companies and KW was a great fit, they seemed to be more forward thinking in my opnion. Good Luck!

Newton, most brokers have very stringent requirements before they take on a new agent.

1. Must be breathing on own
2. Must have an IQ of at least 15
3. Must have a drivable vehicle, at least some of the time

I'm thinking of changing myself....I need to sell the listing that I have with my broker since he referred it...He is negative about everything I want to do...for example previewing (I am a new agent to my market). Also, he thinks Buffini's way is the ONLY way to prospect.... I am a different type & like Jennifer Allen's style much better. He thinks that is nonsense...He's making me hate real estate and I just got started here....

Have heard pretty good things about keller williams, but should still do a bit of homework and go into a few local brokerages and get the inside tell about what they are going to be doing as far as educating you. As education is going to be the most important aspect for you right now, make sure you do your research - good luck!

- EricRE has a good point.. education is by far the best thing a brokerage can offer..and I would include technology. If your a new or average experienced agent then national franchises are good because they usually offer new agent training, resources a few perks and name recognition... so tough as a new agent saying I work with pickle real estate as opposed to C21,Remax or what ever. Yet some larger privately owned brokerages offer the same in education and resources and are not bound by corporate rules-bureaucracies so when the market changes they can augment their business model to foster business and retain agents. If you are experienced.. get your commission split as high as you can and work where you want..maybe even start you own company.. we did.. I dont think I could ever work for a company again..unless they offered great education and technology that allows me to beat the competition..We r in sales.. The 100% brokerage that a friend of mine worked at gave 95/5 splits .. not the 495 per tranaction stuff...which is OK unless you sell 50k homes minus REO fees etc.. then its not really a 100% more like 80/20 split do to fees.. IF you already run your RE like a business, then its about maximizingthe bottom dollar. anyway..agent experience and knowledge level will ditate were you should go.. INHO
