When meeting with clients, I still go in with a business suit on. I like the professional tone it sets. Just curious how you all roll, the suit works for me...

In the winter I occasionally will wear slacks but usually wear blue jeans and long sleeve Polo shirts. In the summer it is shorts every day...no long pants for me now until hopefully October. This is the norm for my area and very, very few wear suits.

I would never wear a business suit in my area. The only place in my area that is right for a suit is church. Sometimes jeans and a polo shirt. Sometimes slacks and a somewhat formal dress shirt. No tie ever. Depends on the clients and what type of property they are looking for. To show farms and farm type property always jeans and some good walking shoes as we usually are going to be walking around. I remember some clients of mine that I sold a small acreage too first were working with a Realtor that wore the suits and had a BMW convertible and didn't know much about farm properties. They said they always felt weird with him as he was totally out of place.

I do a lot of open houses on lakefront properties and many times people will come in by boat and in their swim suits...it can be very entertaining at times to say the least.
I am in a second home market and while most of my clients wear suits in their business life they are shorts, tank tops, and flip flops people here and you certainly can't judge a person by their appearance.

Funny to hear that and picture it too. Changes in attitudes, changes in latitudes.

But your advice is very good for life in general, especially if you are in sales.

I went to an open house when I was on vaction when I was younger. I was not in RE at the time. There were about 5 of us.

The agent was blunt.

"Okay who has the money?"

i wear black shoes, pinstripe pants, solid collared shirt and grey or black undershirt. when its cold, i wear a leather jacket.

i dont like ties or suit jackets so i avoid them whenever possible and i'm almost always dressed as good or better than 95% of the people in a room so i dont think that im underdressed.

i would feel like a tool if i were to show up on appointments with a suit and tie

bottom line is dress appropriate for your market and better than your competition

I agree !

We've got a guy up here who some Buyers have said "Smells like a French WhoreHouse" He must bathe in the stuff. It frightens the dogs away and hurts your eyes!.

Colognes and AfterShaves can't cover everything up. Sometimes, I'd just like to say "Hey, Take a Bath !"
