Turkey, that's a very case-specific question. For example, an average realtor in LA would do more volume (units sold/amount sold) than a successful (top 10%) realtor in a rural area in Nebraska. Numbers only tell a small part of the story. But to answer your question in general terms, in my area if you are doing two transactions a month you are doing well.

How many sales should a realtor generate a month to be considered "a good real estate agent" moreover successful as being a realtor? I don't think numbers have anything to do with a good real estate agent. The top producer in my office went to kindergarden with the entire geographic region, has a wife who is an office manager in the biggest estate and land development attorney's office and has a BIL who is on the committee that targets land for preservation. He lists big deals like there's no tomorrow but he never is on the selling side of anything.

Try not to confuse a good real estate agent with a nice real estate agent. There are few of the former and lots of the latter. Bottom line is you are good if you are very active. You are good if you are carrying listings, like 10-50. You are good if a high proportion of your listings close. You are good if your listings rarely expire. You are good if you work with buyers for a relatively short period of time and they close. In all of the above cases you were the type of agent who is picky about who they work with, do not overlist properties, and move potential, through execution, and on to delivery(closing). In short, you are a good agent if you produce.
Many agents who do not produce claim that being good has nothing to do with production, but this is wrong. It's a business, and success is measured by money and time. To get warmed up on the path to being truly good: you should be listing 2-3 properties per month and getting the great majority of them to the closing table. You should be going out on lots of listing appointments (because you have an active and dynamic prospecting program of course). You should be winning that battle at least 70% of the time to get the listing. If you are doing 50-50, you stink. Statistically most people call 2 agents, if you are one of them and you are only converting 50%, that tells you that your presentation and your program are mediocre.
You should also be good looking and highly professional. That means you dress well, drive a nice car, and just look like the goods.
Finally, your ethics should supersede all else. Everything you do in the business should be above reproach.
Achieve this basic profile, and you are STARTING to be what I would call a good agent.

A good agent has to be good looking huh? Well I guess that dooms more then 75% of agents to a career of not being a very good agent. That's disappointing.

Navawreck is arrogant, "life" will kick him in the head at some point and knock some sense into him. The universe works in wonderful ways.

It's not the number of deals that you do, it's the quality of your service. Real estate is a service business and if you don't provide it, then you aren't worth your weight in salt in my mind.
Put the needs of your clients first, be consistent in your efforts and you're a success in my eyes.

In my mind it is really dependant on quite a few factors to deem yourself and someone else a successful agent and/or real estate broker. Some factors to consider may be: how many hours do they put into their business in relation to closed transactions and the average price of home being sold. Think its really hard to put a precise figure on it though.

I think anyone is successful who loves what they do and can actually make a living at doing it. This is a business and money is a factor because if you cant pay the mortgage you wont be loving it for long. Agreed. Anyone who is loving their life as a Realtor and loves their work entirely is a success. Everyone has their own ideas of what makes a "successful" real estate professional but the only true determining factor is if you love what you are doing and can pay your bills doing it.

Real estate agents are considered one of the most profitable professions that do not require a college education. You would have to undergo some classes in order to be a certified real estate agent. This profession requires some math, but not too much. They deal with a lot of complicated paperwork. Your primary role is to go between the buyer and seller. You have to be outgoing, friendly and flexible with your schedule to become a successful real estate agent.
You must possess a good work ethic. You must be ready to work hard, use good communication skills, be persuasive and be personable. You must also be very persuasive. Having a lot of contacts can also help you become better at this field. It would not hurt to take classes on personality development and communication.
Also, get ready for the Real Estate Licensing Commission of your state to put you under a background investigation. According to the law, it is important to do this because as a real estate professional you will handle big amounts of money. You will also have access to very confidential information of your clients, and the government must be assured that they can trust you before you can start handling deals.
There are many real estate agencies who recruit agents. They do this online or through the yellow pages. It is your responsibility to search for a real estate agency that can help you in your goals of becoming a successful real estate agent. After the hiring process, you will become part of a brokerage team and be allowed to start work.
Find a mentor in your brokerage. It is best to work under them for around 2 to 5 years. This way, you can learn a lot from them. Having a mentor gives you the opporunity to learn from the best. _____________________________________________

My guess would be one to two homes sold, unless the area demands (i.e. prices) are higher than usual.

The measure of success is abstract and exists only in the mind of man.
You must determine what will make you happy in this Life and allow you to tell your Self that you did the best you could with the resources that were made available and the time that was allotted to you.
You cannot fool your Self, it cannot be deceived; and it will not tolerate silly excuses. Go to the mirror and look yourSelf in the eye and ask "Have I done my best ?" When the answer comes back "yes" . . . . only then will you know that you succeeded. Nothing else matters.
Very few people will do this; but know this . . . . the Self is very forgiving. This exercise should make you stronger; but it can drive some others insane.

Hi, I think a real estate agent is successful when he/she convince the client and change the deal as an opportunity to get another deal. As per my experience many people would like to hire a reliable person and they consult their friends and relatives for that. If an agent is able to leave the impression of a reliable person on their client, it will surely reward him/her in future in terms of new clients.

Agreed with Katherine. If a deal is converted into a door for other deals or clients then a real estate agent is the successful one. Also, the number of deals depends on many other factors like location, area and so on.

hi,
just wanted to thank you for this infrmation
Ramadan Thanks for your valuable contributions to the forums today, Ramadan. I'm sure they are appreciated as well. A successful real estate agent is one who can get deals closed, and is honest, trustworthy, able to keep appointments, get new listings, return phone calls & e-mails to clients, their broker, and other agents/referring agents in a timely manner - but above all gets the job done and closes deals.

This Google Custom search may do a better job of searching the forums for some keywords than the old forum search does. The results do not include threads from the Asset Managers Forum however. To search that forum you will need to be actually in the Asset Managers Forum and you will need to use the old forum search below.
