Got my first marijuana growing house this weekend. They left a bunch of evidence and cut 10" large holes all the way through the sub floor for ventilation in several spots. I don't even think they were living in the house. They even left a smashed 700 series BMW with no license plates behind. Thought that was strange even before I entered the house & saw the rest. And it is a very nice house in a good area.

I am waiting to see if my AM wants me to report it to the police. My concern is the police will hold up the clean up/listing for a long time while they investigate.

Anyone run across something like this?

There have been a couple of other similar occurrences posted in the past - but not identical.

I would first CYA - then send pics to your AM.

Have you checked to with neighbors to see if they were aware of what happened at the subject??

Also - you might google the address and find something.

Good Luck - keep us posted.

I've personally never had any experience with this type of a situation but the concern is not the general clean-up or the police protocol. The real issue is there is generally extensive mold due to the moisture and lighting that is used to outfit the grow labs. I saw a documentary on MSNBC about this problem in Humboldt County (go figure). In the larger labs they have as much as $50K worth of damage because of the mold, hole in walls and electrical restructing. There are also some chemicals involved with the labs which could cause some environmental concerns. Its a resale nightmare!

Good luck with that one!

We posted recently the same questions under the subject "grow house". Received several very helpful responses that assisted us with the estimated damages for the BPO and allowed us to get the property listed comparatively low due to the unknown damage and it went under contract to a cash buyer immediately. We never saw inspections, so actual damage we are unaware of. Potential for electrical wiring damage due to the high voltage they run to control the temperature and irrigation system as well as mold potential are significant factors.
Worth searching and looking at the prior posts.

I had one, but the cops had already busted it and the neighbors were a wealth of info. The pot heads are ususally busted through the utility company who report unusually high electrical usage. That and tin foil over the windows is a dead givaway.

I never had a pot house. But I have a meth house. - Unconfirmed. Meth trash was left behind, so I reported it to AM. I have bids on pre-assessment testing.

Be very careful being around, but especially in, the house. Very nasty chemicals are used and you do not want to breath any.

If it tests positive your going to learn what HAZMAT really means.
Best of luck to you.

I hate to be this way, but I am glad NC hasn't been finding as many labs as they did just a couple of years ago. It looks like they finally started setting up shop elsewhere. I hate to pass problem on to anyone else, but I'm just glad there are fewer in NC now.

Let us know how it tests out - and what happens afterwards.

So the growers broke into the house(picked the locks) and took all of their stuff out of the house. I thought it was interesting that they would leave so much equipment behind. They took their smashed up car too. At least they cleaned up most of the trash that we would have had to clean up.

I think they were tipped off by a neighbor.
