You smile and say sure - no problem And then you remember this before you accept their next order. What else can you do - blow up and blow them off?

I would be very curious what mill this was from. They don't seem to have their act together.

If they give you a lot of work just suck it up and do it. If it becomes a regular occurrence then I would ask for more money. I always ask myself if a few extra bucks is worth losing thousands of dollars of orders they would have given you for the rest of the year.

Reo,
Along as the conversation is professional you won't upset the mill by request an additional fee to fix their mistake. The best line I usually get is 'I'm happy to do this for you however is there a chance I can get a bit of a fee increase for the extra work I am providing?'
Most QC and return staff will bump you 10 - 15 if it was their error as long as it seems like a request and not a demand.

I agree with posters, just do it. I've had to "step away" from a couple of issues lately that weren't fair or right but with a good client and I didn't want to shoot myself in the foot. I don't regret my choice in accomodating them. Look at it this way, you can always quit, your time your choice but until you're there with them, best to preserve the relationship and keep the choice yours.

Thats why I said ask not demand. If they say they can't - fine, take it for what it is. But if 3-5 times you get that bump, it's worth at least an honest question.
Think of it this way, it's already their mistake and they know it. If you are nice and ask the question they already feel bad they goofed up, they are more apt to accomidate you vs if it's a client return where the client has changed the requirement or information ect since it was not *their* mistake.

Unfortunately, I recently refused to adjust my value of a property. I valued it at 40,000, they wanted 100,000. No way. They were so wrong. I was afraid of getting messed up in a fraud case. Well now I have been banned. So I guess you have to make a decision sometimes, between giving them what they want, or losing your integrity. I know there is an ongoing investigation in our area of fraud caused by inflating properties and I don't want to spend time in jail. We already have some people in jail in our area for fraud. Not me baby.

". . . now I have been banned . . ." Sorry to hear that Alice.I'm sometimes inclined to respond to those requests with something along the lines of: "I took the time to choose Comps using the rigorous methodology required by your Guidelines.
"Analysis of Comps so selected indicates a value in the range I reported.
"The rigorous examination of the Comps you required has helped to establish My Opinion.
"How could I possibly now arrive a Value much different than that indicated by your well chosen Comps ?
"You can't have it both ways !"

This Google Custom search may do a better job of searching the forums for some keywords than the old forum search does. The results do not include threads from the Asset Managers Forum however. To search that forum you will need to be actually in the Asset Managers Forum and you will need to use the old forum search below.
