I wrote St. Joseph Can Sell Your Home While Standing on His Head an article about sellers who swear that burying a St. Joseph in their yard helped them to get their home sold after it took forever to sell. For a followup I am wondering if any agents have ever done this for their clients, or used the statues for marketing purposes. Please email me at heartlandwriter at aol dot com.

My other St. Joe's article:

It depends on faith. My wife is VERY Catholic. Me, not so much. We argued about the Mary statue being in the front yard, we settled with her being in the back yard.

I have bought St. Joe burial statues before. Its not a marketing strategy though. A hard core Catholic would appreciate it, others would not. It could seal the deal or kill the deal (listing presentation wise). I don't talk faith or politics with ANY client anymore.

I have heard of and seen this many many times, but my area is predominantly Catholic.

Some of my best sales have included an SVB . . . . the Shrine of the Vertical Bathtub. (It probably requires a visual).

My neighbor had one of those tubs. lol.

Another neighbor buried ST. Joseph and it was all I could do to keep from saying "If only you had let ME list it....St. Joe wouldn't be eating dirt right now." LOL

Here's a visual to help clarify:

Sometimes if just one doesn't get the desired results, more might work:

Or if space is at a premium, then you might prefer a fancier version:

That last one doesn't look like the Blessed Virgin at all, but something one might find booby trapped w/ snakes and scorpions in an Indiana Jones adventure.

WTH is up with the wine bottles sticking out all over the sides?

That's just for beautification; or Art, for those who truly appreciate Art !

The last one would be more of an attraction at night when the lights are active.

Every member of my wifes family has one of those. When Crazy Nanna died I had to go retrieve hers from the yard before the house sold. Those things are quite heavy. I dropped the Blessed Mother and broke her head off. The inlaws were not happy to have to see a headless Mary, I thought it was rather funny though.

I will. My wife took it over to her Dads house, he is repainting his and will be repainting ours. Nothing more tacky than a tub with chipping paint. When it comes home she is insisting it goes in the front yard. I have grown tired of fighting about it since I really don't care one way or the other.

I suggest that headless Mary run for Congress. Apparantly she has the main qualification!

I would have, but they may consider it a mockery of their religion. I'm really not opposed to their beliefs, I just make fun of them for a laugh. The headless Mary got buried in my father in laws back yard. Not sure why, but I thought asking would aggitate the situation, so I kept my mouth shut.

LOL that was probably a good idea, REO.

Maybe that's what you're supposed to do with broken statues of saints, kind of like how you're supposed to burn torn/tattered flags...

All I can say is that this thread gave me some much needed levity in my day.

I don't think I've ever recognized the vertical bathtub, I will keep my eyes open for that from now on.

I have had more then one seller who burried a St. Joseph's statue. I believe they are supposed to be burried head down. At one closing the buyer called up her mother as soon as we closed so that she could run over and dig it up!
