I am inquiring if anyone knows the specifics as to what type of additions/renos can be done to a property which will exempt capital gains when selling a property?

Also how recent does the addition have to be?

How can you find out if any databases exist that would document if any additions/renos/permits have been done/issued to a specific property that we own? Such as when researching a car, you can find out claims that were made on it.

Oh we are located in Canada.

If anyone can answer some or all of these questions or point me to some resources that would be greatly appreciated!
