I have been thinking about advertising in my church bulletin. When the market was hot there were several agents that did but none now.

I think you'd be better off socializing w/ the members of your church, going out of your way to get to know them and be friends with them.

I really loathe the commercialization of the church.

I'm going on a listing appt. next week w/ someone from my church. How did it come about? I was at a Valentine's dinner w/ the hubby, this guy and his wife were there. I didn't know them all that well so I started chatting. Where do you live, oh, I know that neighborhood..yeah, it's nice...blah blah blah. Talk went on to other things, movies..kids, the game we were playing... Then halfway thru dinner he said he was thinking about selling and would I like to come look at it. I didn't even have any business cards on me, had to take one of his.

Church is about the fellowship, the relationships. Business can certainly come as a byproduct of that....but my personal feeling is that you should just focus on the reason you are even at church and not try to commercialize your presence there. But that's just me. I'm sure some would disagree with me and probably even tell you to grab a copy of the church directory and start cold calling the congregation.

I am completely with Perky on this one. While I hope to get business from my church relationships, that is NOT the reason I have those relationships, I will do NOTHING to ever make them wonder if that is the case. I hate feeling used, and I feel pretty sure others feel the same.

Advertising is church bulletins in my opinion is sort of like sponsoring a little league ball team. Do it because you want to help them, and deal with the possibilities that it will cost you a little $$$. Maybe NO measurable return, but you will always know your motivation.

For me their is a (god),(supreme being),etc. and then there is religion. I don't put religion anywhere close to having a daily relationship with your higher power.

In my neck of the woods many just go to church once a week to say " I have sinned! ". I committed adultery etc. and then just throw money in the offering and all is well with the Universe. Then next week they go out and do it again.

I know some agents who will hear at their church about someone sick and in the hospital. They will go visit them to see how they are doing but really are hawks circling the prey for an estate listing. They also hand out business cards in service when people stand up to talk to each other.

Some see this as ok but to me it is pretty low. The saying "The love of money is the root of all evil" rings true here. There are just some places I consider off limits. If someone wants to talk about it then I set up a time to meet outside of church.

None of the churches I ever attended or belonged to had advertisements in the bulletins. The bulletins were little handouts that had church announcements, upcoming events, and the "Order of Service" printed in them. I would be appalled if the bulletins started having advertisements!

It would do well for people involved in churches to read the passage in John where Jesus drove out the money changers:

Quote:
John 2:14-16 (New International Version)

14In the temple courts he found men selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money. 15So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple area, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. 16To those who sold doves he said, "Get these out of here! How dare you turn my Father's house into a market!"

Is nothing sacred anymore?????

I don't see ads in the actual church bulletins either, but there are Christian newspapers that are sometimes distributed in churches that I do see ads in. Just don't make the Church your marketplace.

That seems pretty obvious to me, but apparantly (as I've seen it myself) there is NO place off limits to some.

^ that (newspaper type publication) would be different, I guess.

Though in the churches I've come from, donations/contributions to any church ministry have always been anonymous, with rare exceptions. No family names stamped in bibles or hymnals, no nameplates on pews or windows...and that's how it should be.

I guess if you go to the type of church that allows that in the bulletin and if that's something you want to do then go ahead.

As for me. Never! I don't even know if our church has a policy on that. But I've never seen anyone doing that. There are advertisements for selling fruit to benefit our private school. My church also runs a small vegetarian food store, but that is all for fund raising purposes for the church itself.

The second part of your question about advertising in anything locally then that is an entirely different conversation. There are so many things you can do.
