I guess I am wondering what is next, I am from Massachusetts, have gotten an email from a Broker with Remax and she wants to discuss my real estate career with her...I know I have to pay a broker money to hang my license with them, but would like to know what to expect as far as start up costs for myself, as well as what to expect to make starting off.
Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Congrats! Start interviewing brokers (you are interviewing them, they are not interviewing you). find one with a great training program, a non-competing broker and a great vibe. There is a sticky thread with great questions to ask.

If I was starting again, I would look at Keller Williams. They seem to have a great training program and great offices.

Don't worry about the split when you are starting. Training is your highest priority right now.

Good luck and go get 'em!

Thanks for your reply, Spartacus.....I was wondering, on average how much I have to pay per month to have my license at a brokers?...I would assume, the larger, more known broker would be more than a smaller type one?

Some brokers do not charge any kind of fee, (they are usually the 50% commission split offices) some charge a nominal fee, some may charge a couple hundred a month...some charge a LOT (over 1,000 a month)

It will vary from broker to broker, even brokers within a franchise. For example, I'm at a Weichert franchise office that does not charge any fees and offers great free training, but other Weichert offices charge not only a monthly desk fee but require newbies to pay for some of their training out of their first few commissions.

You wont know until you ask each one.

Congrats!!!

I am also a fellow MA agent. Now you should take a look at what your goals are for your real estate career. What niche do you want to specialize in? First Time Home Buyers (FTHB), 2nd/vacation homes, Investment, commercial, etc. Once you think about that, then think about what brokerage can help you gain success in that niche.

I started with a major brokerage and it wasn't a good fit for me to start with. I knew I wanted to deal with investors (rehabs, reos, distressed sales, etc) and my particular office was more high-end homes, almost $100k above the median sales price. Now I am with a brokerage that offers a happy medium.

This is a great market to learn where you want to go in this industry. Figure out what you want your niche to be and find a brokerage that can offer the support to helping you become successful in that niche.
