I recently found an abandoned property and went to search for the owner. There is two different names one on the deed and one on the taxes. There is a clear title, but you cannot find the owner. I want to purchase the property, but no one seems to know where the owner is. If I decide to move in, would I have squatters rights? What is my next step?

If you move in... You would probably get free room and board.... in Jail.

In America... you can not just "Take" something that belongs to others.

Their is NO Such Thing as Squatters Rights....But Trespass does exist and is a crime.

You may have some idea you can qualify for Adverse Possession.... but you don't come any where near qualifying and can't.

If you have interest in the property... buy it.

If you can't find the owner many other people would probably have no significant problem in doing so if you made it worth their while. Finding owners is not generally a difficult thing if you know where and how to look.

But... Move in.... and... You should go to Jail.

Find out where the tax bill is mailed. That person must know the other owner. If they don't they may own the tax certificate. Have you checked to see if the taxes were paid?
