I live in Portland Oregon and interested in Real estate. I've been considering a career move as a real estate agent/broker (Depend which require first).

1. Can you tell me what are the best steps I should take in order to become a real estate agent/broker?
2. What is the difference between a Sales Agent License and a Brokers License?
3. Could you recommend any good online course?

Any advice I would appreciate it.

You got a lot to learn.

1. Read Anything that has to do with Real Estate, get as much knowledge of the field as you can. Read the posts on this site, that'll teach you alot.

2. A Sales Agent is the first stop on the ladder of selling Real Estate. Broker is the 2nd stop. Even if you could become a broker first (Which, chances are you can't) you wouldn't want to. You really need to learn being a agent first. Here's a very small breakdown of each:

Agent: Finds leads, shows houses, takes listings.
Brokers: Trains new agents, oversees agents, collects rents for propery owners.

3. Sorry, cannot help you there.

The place you will want to start is with your state board of Real Estate .

Also, some books to give you a better understanding of the field will help:

Your Successful Real Estate Career

I have not read this one, but it might be a good read: Idiots Guide To Success As A Real Estate Agent

And last thing, there are lots of book posts on here of things to read, search for those. That'll help you too.

Hi SkyFather

Thanks for your reply. After spending countless hours searching. Finally, I got my answers show as below:

Just in case someone in Oregon may like to know the result, those 2 links pretty much answer all my questions.

If you're thinking of becoming a real estate agent in Oregon, you'll need to apply for a real estate broker's license. That's right, the Oregon Real Estate Agency no longer issues salesperson licenses - they license all real estate agents as brokers......

I would like to hear other agents (from States of Oregon) what they have to go through in order to become a real estate agent in Oregon.

Thanks for any of your input.

I know agents in South Carolina will have to start getting licensed as a broker (They are writing the laws for it). I know Oklahoma currently only licenses at the broker level. I know there are about 3 or 4 other states that do it too, but I cannot recall them right now. If I remember, I'll post them.
