I am looking for suggestions! I am tired of hauling my large air compressor around with my generator to blow lines for winterizations. I have tried taking just a portable tank but I run out of air too quickly. I though about a smaller portable compressor but I can't find a gas powered at a reasonable price. Any suggestions or what do some of you use?

How about an under the hood DC/AC Inverter for your truck so you can plug in a little electric compressor where you don't have power at the site?

I use a 1 1/2HP 3gal air compressor and a 2000wt Honda generator
Both are light enough to carry and small enough to fit behind truck seat.

Look toward the bottom of my web site www.kh-pp.com
And you can see them blowing out lines.

Great idea on the inverter. I did some checking and can't find one that will provide the amps to run even the smallest compressor. I also like the handheld portable generator idea. Did some checking on that one also. A little more costly but may be a good option. If anyone has any other ideas that would be great. How about sharing what you use??

I had a good one from J.C.Whitney years ago. Sometimes you might have to set the idle higher to get the necessary amperage. Some trucks come from the factory with a power inverter already installed. Too bad there isn't a compressor that would just operate off the PTO. Or something that would allow you to use the exhaust from your truck to push the water out of the plumbing.

Buy your gas compressor used off Craigslist. Lots of them for sale since the construction industry went down.

I use a 2500 generator that I keep chained in the back of my pick up and then I have a 6 gal. compressor. The 6 gallon compressor is lightweight so it is easy to handle.

Could you refill the portable tank at gas stations, or tire shops perhaps. Maybe for a small fee...

When I first started I tried portable tank with hand held blow gun, and,
There is no way a portable tank will blow out the water in the lines. and you need a tool to connect tank to house fixtures to blow the lines out right

A smaller compressor should work, but fill the hot water heater first with air. Then you should have the volume to blow out the rest of the lines.

Gas compressor is the ONLY way to go. I bough a used 5HP Emglo twin tank off Craigslist last year for $200 (needed a new engine $165.00). Just upgraded to a Titan 5.5 HP 12 CFM twin tank for $400 from a pawnshop nearly new and sold my old one for $300 I can blow out the average 3 bedroom house in 15-20 minutes.......
