I love sports talk radio during the NFL season, but I can't listen to it while I am doing BPO data entry as I concentrate more on what they are saying than what I'm actually typing, and it just completely messes me up. So believe it or not, I don't listen to anything while working out of the house. (Yes, I'm boring!)
Now when I am in the car doing pics that is a totally different story. If I'm not listening to sports talk, then its XM satillite radio which is tuned to either one of the classic rock stations or 90's/early aut grunge. That means Bob Dylan to Pearl Jam.

I can't concentrate on my work so no radio or tv. Concentration..?? whats that?? Ohhh, thats what I do in between making breakfast, lunch, dinner, cleaning up messes, changing channels to find cartoons, finding sippy cups and chasing 2 little girls around so they can turn off my computer everytime I get up. Or move my computer chair into another room???

If I'm working evenings, usually NCIS re-runs. LOL
If I'm working days, it's quiet or I'll turn on the local golden oldies rock station.

Something musical...I am a drummer,I do studio drum tracks when I am away from this. Music of choice is old school funk, soul, rock... That said, I like just about everything musical. It is on from the minute I wake to the minute I go to sleep. I would be misearable without it.

Right now I'm watching game six of the World Series and having a very hard time getting any work done. I usually keep the tv off while I'm trying to work.
I'll listen to some of the music I have on my computer or XM radio. It could be anything from Johnny Cash, to Reverend Horton Heat, to Marylin Manson, but it's usually techno during BPOs. It has great beats and keeps me focused with minimal lyrics. If I'm having a hard time concentrating I'll put on some brainwave entrainment tracks that are designed to increase concentration, focus, and (for those hard ones) creativity. If I'm listening to XM it's usually on Alt Nation (47), Chill (84) or Area (80).
Once the boys get home from school or on the weekends I'm listening for the sounds of things breaking.

Talk radio here, Monday through Friday. Who? The right wing conspiritors. Saturday and Sunday is usually football or music or church radio.
And like Tonya D....the kids
rental car gave me 1st experience with xm radio. not sure what to think? I found myself listening to fox or even cnn, but there are so many commercials. I would listen to a movie if if I had seen it before.
years ago I got into books on tape, biographies mostly. cool but hard to come by.

If I'm at my desk, TV turned (low volume) to CNBC, CNN, MSNBC, FOX NEWS or CBS Soaps, depending on mood.
In the car in the morning, NPR or other talk radio including way right or way left stuff. I yell back at all of them.
Depending on mood in the car for music: Hard Rock, Soft Rock, Hip Hop, RAP and even "Easy Listening", but as a rule, prefer the real "Rock & Roll"
I no longer ever listen to CD music without live radio or tv program in background, for fear of missing what's going on in the world. Blame it on 9/11.

I thought the question was what are you watching now, while doing BPO's. During the day while I'm doing BPO's I have CNN on and then turn to Fox News in the evening.

Jack Johnson station on Pandora. Of course I generally only get through about 1/2 a song before the phone rings and I have to mute it. But when I'm workin BPOs at night that's what's on.

Michael Jackson.... Most people will think that I'm just jumping on the band wagon since his death. But so far from the truth. I had tix to the show in London for Sept 10th and have every MJ album or CD ever released (including imports).
I do catch myself dancing around a little than I really have time for though. Hehe!!

No music or tv for me, I average 2 hours to do a BPO while watching tv, when it takes me 45 Minutes tops, but I Have enough distractions as my office is at a intersection that doesn't have a traffic light, so there is plenty of activity. Today it was a couple of kids in a old Galaxy 500 repeatedly pulling out of the side street and doing a burn out. Usually it's a guy in a 32 t bucket with a blower or some kids in a old plymouth belvedere. then I've got the spoiled little brats with their M3 bmws (about 10 of them) or the mercedes kids driving around with the base pumping and lets not forget About the rednecks in pickup trucks and glass packs. put that together with my 110 year old office space with original windows (I can't look out for long, the waves in the glass start to give me a headache) and it 5 feet from the road. and I've got all the noise I need.
Sorry about the long rant, it was especially crazy today (full Moon).

Gredneck, maybe you Need to have some music on to drown out all that noise! When I am in the car, I listen to XM radio comedy, everthing from George Carlin to Frank Caliendo. I used to listen to Don and Mike but they are gone from radio. Inputting BPO's I may have cable in the background on local news, Discovery Channel, Comedy (I love Reno 911) or Bravo.

CNN, CNBC, Comedy Central (prefer standup), The food network (I is da cook), travel channel (No reservations, Bizarre Food, and Man vs. Food), and PBS.
Musically Bach, Brahms, et. al. and Pink Floyd, Concrete Blonde, Beatles, Clapton, etc.
I agree about the news nut thing. I just try to avoid info overload.
Good to see Pine back.

I have no tv , not out of choice but because of where I live. Radio reception sucks too. So, I listen, online to Old Time Radio - www.otrnow.com . They have 2 webcast channels, one is a variety of programs dated to whatever day it is for example today is 11/05 so the programs featured are from 11/05 - whatever year. Repeated twice each day for a full 24 hours worth of programming. The other channel is Crimetime, random crime shows. Believe it or not, you get repeats on this too and it bothers me when it happens. It's not a good sign when I can repeat the dialog without prompting! I grew up listening to old time radio (No, I'm not that old! I was not allowed to stay up past 7:30 so that meant no tv. However, I was allowed a radio in my room and one of the local radio stations had a golden age of radio slot from 7 or 8 to 10 or so at night.). It keeps me company without distracting me. In my car I listen to CDs, mostly jazz and alternative, new age-y stuff. It used to be that to listen to music would make me sad so I stopped, now that my achy-break heart has healed, not such a big deal. Frankly, this may be tmi!

I forgot to add Hamlet. That is the hamster in the wheel in my head but he does not usually act up until about 2:00 a.m. with "You know you should be working." "Why are you not working?" "I am not going to leave you alone." "Get up, get with it." "Sleep? You can sleep when you get that big dirt nap in the end." "You know tomorrow there is going to be even more to do so, you need to get back at it now."..........

Mine are kind of eclectic. I've had Sirius for about 6 years (before satellite radio exploded). I usually have Stern on in the morning, but also listen to the Classic Rock channels (14 thru 17). On Saturday I have NPR NOW and listen to Car Talk and Wait Wait Don't Tell Me. If I'm in the truck on Sunday afternoon, I have the NFL or Nascar on. And the comedy channels are really good too.

Note: I changed this post after reading it as it was not what I expect of me. Too close to off color.

Until recently, I had a pretty good memory for the old tunes. The other day I was humming an old song and played "Name That Tune" (old TV game show). "I can name that tune in 3 notes", so I thought.......my first choice was "Kookla, Fran, and Ollie". The correct answer was "Peter, Paul, and Mary".....for you youngsters, the first group were 3 puppets.......Ya know, this old age thing is not what it's cracked up to be..........lol

We had a BW TV (of course) then that my brother and I had to put an old army over that made a makeshift tent over the TV and us - to block out all other light - so we could see the TV. Times were simpler then and our needs were few. Miss Frances - Ding Dong School Howdy Doody Lone Ranger Cisco Kid Rin Tin Tin and the old high pitched sound and station emblem when TV stations actually ended their broadcast day - lol Good Night - Trinity is impatient

If I'm in my car: Lacuna Coil Evanescence Seether Saliva Godsmack Sevendust Cold Lady Gaga (how can she NOT motivate a person? I ask you)
If I'm in my office: Rovers Morning Glory
If I'm at home: Skanky reality TV. I.E. Bad Girls Club, Real World, The Real Housewives, Flipping Out, Million Dollar Listing, etc.
And most importantly, I do it all while drinking 999 cups of coffee a day. Heck. Yeah.

Brad...I met them all over the summer at MAAW4. It was awesome. She's super tiny and really nice! FYE sponsored the event and when we got to the meet n greet they weren't letting people take photos with the band. I don't know why. I said hell with that. My BFF and I went right up there, met them all and asked for pics. Maus and Criz said absolutely, FYE tried to shut that down, Maus and Criz ignored them and posed with us for several shots. Then during the show they waved at us. Way cool people.
Oh and if you haven't done it yet, check out Cristina on Apacolyptica's SOS (Anything but Love) and with Megadeth doing A Tout Le Monte. Beautiful voice. The videos are fantastic. Although LC's "I Like It" vid is my all time fave. Sorry people! Got carried away!

6inch:
Thanks for the Lacuna Coil info. I would have never though about Christina's height considering her voice. It's just amazing, with more power and range than Amy Lee's IMO.
I agree with you that their cover of "Enjoy the Silence" is very good. My favorite song by LC is "Falling Again" from their "In a Reverie" CD. Its now a 11 year old song, but really beautiful! I'm really into the lyrics of a song, and if you listen to those in that song it's very, very powerful.
Ok, enough of us boring everyone else here on the MB. I'm glad you were able to meet the band. Good for you!!!!

i think i had mentioned this before, but, if you find that your getting bored of your music library, I recommend you download a free program called Simplify Media.
Basically, it connects to your itunes player, and you can then listen to your friends library from you home computer.
Ive got like 6 friends on my list, and my library went from about 10k songs to over 80k songs. I never run out of music while uploading.
Just fyi.

I used to live in Indianapolis and listened to Bob and Tom every day. Great show that is still with us with nation wide exposure now.
I too miss Frank Zappa. Any one who would name their children Dweezl and Moon Unit has to think outside the box. I survived what took him.

Today it is Fox News and CNBC. One of the most tragic and disturbing things I ever heard was today, it was 'Chris Lastrella 911 Call Before Crashing" in his Lexus - a problem with a stuck accelerator. To hear it, if you haven't already, I found it here: (Warning - this is the actual 911 call from Chris while speeding down a highway at 120 mph - and the end ) http://www.entertonement.com/clips/fmnjp...Chris-LastrellaBoth stations had a lot about Toyota today. One gem - already talked about on the forum is: FHA and Fannie: Pushing Foreclosure Sales: http://www.cnbc.com/id/35184396

When some lawyer gets a class together for 17-year-olds who crashed an '84 Camaro due to a sticky accelerator pedal in 1991, somone needs to let me know.
Funny how these problems have always been around, but technology has made it possible to more readily draw conclusions and identify trends and issues.
I guess I'm just out of luck. I can take comfort in the $50 I sold it for.

Gov't Mule, Stevie Ray, Classic Country (Waylon, Willie and Merle) and Smooth Jazz. Looks funny when I write it...but that's it. It's usually in that order from start of week to end of week. Guess by Friday or Saturday I need something kinda mellow.

Lately, I've been listening to some books on CD. Just yesterday I finished the 12 CD version of Roots (25th anniversary edition)which was read by Avery Brooks. The last half of the last CD which was an epilogue by Alex Haley on the search to find his roots brought tears to my eyes. I usually try to find non fiction like Bob Woodward or political history or bios.

Pine - It's Ruffin McNeill from the defensive coordinator position at Texas Tech (and ECU alum). Folks around here have high hopes, including me. I just hope its not a launching pad for something else! I would've like to see Skip hang around awhile.

Country - the stuff that is about being crazy - and out of control - cuz I am all about out of control - you can tell by the bass slippers, plaid jammie pants - sweat shirt and pony tail - don't worry - I at least brush my teeth so I just look bad - I don't smell that much.

I almost forgot -- On Saturday, try Car Talk then Wait Wait Don't Tell Me on NPR. It's 10AM to Noon on NPR Now on Sirius XM. Local stations might have it different times.

Was listening to some deadmau5 last night while doing the BPOs. Zones me out from everything else so I can just focus on what's in front of me. Good stuff.

I was feeling a little drained this morning with all the BPOs so I poped in this "Money" song, and it really gave me that lift I needed. Its a classic, with a bass riff that most will recongize after the first few chords. (Shoot even Donald Trump seems to like the song!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OCkLEo-DT1Q

I will admit to keeping current on my soaps while working on bpos, as well as checking CNN and the local news. Occasionally I'll tune to the cable channel that plays Broadway music.

The other night I watched a rerun of the British Prime Ministerial debate on CSPAN. It was kind of interesting. They were pretty lively, but not as much so as the Parlimentary sessions I have watched. They yell and hollar and wear wigs.

Anthony Bordain and Andrew Zimmern when they are on. Also, the Buffetts, Jimmy and Warren as they both had something to do with me getting from the midwest to FL.

I used to watch it a lot on PBS Sunday evening when John Major was prime minister and even more when Tony Blair ran the show. It's neat to see the mix of proper manners occasionally interupted by a zinger at the opposition. Haven't watched it in a few years though.

I forgot the Prime Minister is in there. We need that here. I'll stay nonpartisan, but it would be healthy for our country to see the POTUS being directly challenged by the opposition. Nowhere to hide but by offering a verbal defense from your own wits. I am referring to all recent administrations, not only the current one. it looked like a bad 80's show on the stage of a 90's who wants to e a millionarie with corny music... anyone see the daily show that discussed this...lol...
Yeh, right, like an old game show. What is that? Different aesthetic appeal or do they just get the old stuff? It reminded me of looking at a Ford Probe or Ford Escort. At one time it looked sleek and cool, but no longer. Everything about it looks dated.

This Google Custom search may do a better job of searching the forums for some keywords than the old forum search does. The results do not include threads from the Asset Managers Forum however. To search that forum you will need to be actually in the Asset Managers Forum and you will need to use the old forum search below.
