I currently list residential REO and would like to find out how to get commercial REO training. I figure the REO stuff is similiar but I need to learn how to list/sell commercial real estate. Anyone have any ideas?

I'm in southern California and may go to the CREOBA seminar next month.

Everything I have read on CREOBA is crap. Just Google it. Looks like they are trying to replicate REO MAC and NREOBA but do it on the commercial side and charge more.

You can do much better on your own.

Super Realtor is right. CREOBA is trying to replicate REOMAC. There is nothing wrong w/ that. It's just that they are asking too much money for what they're able to offer.

No, Comm REO stuff is not similar. You should get some experience with regular Comm transactions first before you tackle the Comm REO.

I spoke to CREOBA and they require 2 years comm experience to work with them. They do not train residential agents.

If you are a residential REO broker then you already know the REO part. That is a no brainer. You just need to learn about commercial real estate. You can't group all commercial properties together as there are many different sectors. Most agents will pick a sector such as retail and learn everything they can about it.

Thank you all for your posts! What would you recommend I do to get educated on commercial real estate? I have been self educated in many areas and I am not afraid to work on it myself.

I used to work for a commercial mortgage broker and enjoyed the material.

+1 on the mentor comment.

The other route is to become a marketing person in an established firm to learn the market and the terminology.

You can also hop on CoStar & Loopnet and look up all the stuff that doesn't make sense to you.

To The OP:
This was in our board's newsletter.

"1st Notice: Commercial Database in Tempo

To better satisfy the commercial brokers and agents, a CARETS Commercial MLS has been created and will be available towards the latter part of May. The CARETS Commercial MLS will be accessible to you through Tempo but will have a different look and feel. Webinars will be set up specifically for you and your agents soon."

Hi Calif Dreaming,

I took the Webinar yesterday and it seemed pretty neat. I am also signing up for some classes soon to learn how to do Commercial BOVs.

I just found a CCIM to join my team to branch out. I know the REO side and he can help me with everything else. I'm not going to get the whole pie but I will be able to learn from him. And he is happy because he has a chance to make more money. So works out for the both of us.

For a resi agent looking to get into commercial, CREOBA can provide some great training and networking. CCIM is also a great place to learn. The CCIM designation is on of the most respected designations in commercial real estate.

Many people have joined this association and expect to get listing as a result. It doesn't work that way.

I am a member and use my CREOBA membership along with my CCIM candidacy to gain credibility when speaking with banks about their assets.

Matt Mandell also offers some great training. I would Google him and see what he has going on too.

Is anyone doing commercial BOV's? Ive done maybe 10 in the past year but it seems there isnt a specific website or management company(s) handling them. I get emails constantly on training courses on how to do them but not where to get them. If anyone would be so kind as to share please PM me. Im in Missouri so if you arent I shouldnt step on your toes! smile
