I've heard many buyers search using several terms like : SUCH AND SUCH REAL ESTATE, SUCH AND SUCH HOMES FOR SALE..ETC

What do you think the top 5 terms would be used in search engines when it pertains to Real Estate?

Google Analytics keeps track of the number of times a word is searched. It is not in your best interest to choose words that are at the top because everyone try to do the same. I hope this helps.

Check out the google keyword tool https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal and type in 'your city' + 'real estate' and it should give you a good idea of what terms are being searched the most often in your local area.

All the best!

finding the top keywords is great - but really for your market you need a full keyword strategy! you need long tail keywords that people are typing in who are buying.

There is a lot of competition for real estate related keywords. But when those keywords are combined with the particular focus of your business (company names, addresses, community names, etc.), you have a greater chance of being found by those who are searching for exactly what you have to offer. It takes time and won't happen overnight, but it's well worth the effort long term.

Real estate marketing, in my opinion is geo targetted. If someone goes online to search for homes in Omaha, they'll probably google:

homes in omaha
omaho homes
omaha ne real estate

and the list goes on..

And since it does you need to have a website or blog that covers all of these variations of keywords and get top rankings in Google.

If you don't and until you do... you are giving this potential business to whoever is on the top pages of Google for those keywords.

How much $$$ are you loosing because your website is not on the first page of Google for your local; geo targeted keywords?

By the way those who are on Google's front pages will never reveal how good they have it.

Need help pm me. - Gary

Go to Google analytics. You will find the best info there.

For what it's worth on keywords I recently joined a larger RE/MAX franchise that has their own real estate websites in addition to the remax.com. Well they recently redid it to be more SEO optomized then it was. They said in their research and work that people are now starting to search more for specific things about they type of house they are looking for. Like amount of bedrooms and other such features. Like in the above post they would look for 3 bedroom house in Omaha Nebraska. So they advised all agents to be more descriptive in their listing remarks and not use as many abbreviations. I know that doesn't help so much with a main website in attracting visitors, but I do believe it helps with individual listings get more views. By the way the websites I have listed below are my own and not the RE/MAX franchise I'm with.

Don't try to get high rankings for very competitive terms. Look for longer tail keywords that have good search volumes but less competition. Take a look at the free Traffic Travis tool.
http://www.traffictravis.com/

There is a feature that will tell you the search volumes and whether getting a good ranking is easy to achieve.

Would highly recommend:

and the niche keyword finder tool:

Both currently free.

I used to think that people search off common words --but just last months I noticed over 1,500 different keywords used on my site.

Google Custom Forum Search

This Google Custom search may do a better job of searching the forums for some keywords than the old forum search does. The results do not include threads from the Asset Managers Forum however. To search that forum you will need to be actually in the Asset Managers Forum and you will need to use the old forum search below.
