Pardon my double posting, but I didn't see this folder right away and thought maybe my question would be more appropriate for this section of the boards. Here's my dillemma...

I'm living in PA and will be placing my home up for sale. This is a very historic area and many of the homes in the area pre-date the 19th and some even the 18th century. This past summer, my fiance and I found out that the home in which we live and wish to sell is actually 115 years old while the deed clearly states that it was built in the 1950s!! This puzzlement peaked our interest, and after tracking back through old deeds and spending many hours in the local historical offices in this area, we found out that the house had been moved a few hundred feet from it's original foundation in the 1950s, and that it was indeed built in 1889. Question: should we reveal the historical aspect of this house or keep the "secret" of the deed and sell it as the current deed indicates. Any advice appreciated, thank you in advance!

I would not recommend you conceal anything you might know about the house including it's true age.

The true age would probably be a turnoff to some and an attraction to others.

In either case how would you like to explain knowing the house's true age but concealing it to a judge??? \:o

Unless we can turn this into a selling feature, it may well be that our inquiring minds innocently took us too deep into the history of this house. The house was sold to us eight years ago as a 50-something year old house and there was no sign on the deed or elsewhere to raise suspicion that it was any older. It was actually after talking to some elderly neighbors that we were told the house had been moved from it's foundation back in the 1950s. THAT is what made us dig deeper thinking perhaps there was a story more to this old house that even our current deed did not reveal. We were actually startled to find out the actual age of the house and began to wonder what our obligation was (if any) to tell potential buyers. (what's more, while we have found this house to be built more abouts 1891, we found old maps and land deeds of the lot as as far back as 1870s!)

Thanks for your input!
