I work from home and currently have a landline set up. I only use this line for faxing and I would like to get rid of it since it's $20 a month. Are any of you using any other methods of faxing other than the landline? I have seen others available for about $6 monthly via online.

Thanks.

I and my agents use MyFax.com for $10/month. We've been using the service for a few years with great success. The best thing is the included toll free number and that you receive your faxes via email. Our out of town clients always seem to appreciate the toll free number when they need to fax me something.

I second the MyFax.com account... I've been using them for a few years as well and have been very happy with the service.

I'll third MyFax.com. It is the least expensive outbound eFax service we could find and it's easy to use. $10/mo to fax out is much cheaper than a phone line and it saves a ton of paper and printer ink. OK, I had my hippie moment for the day =).

Of course it works for an inbound eFax too.

I am about to start using an online fax service as well. I need to get a scanner to be able to fax docs. What scanners are you folks using?

Calif Dreaming, I looked at packetel. Which in turn recommends Myfax. So I'd say we all agree. Gordoned. As for scanners. That's a wide open topic. I use a Brother MFC-9420CN mulitfunction laser, fax, scanner. With paperport software. It works good and has worked good for 3 years now.

Thanks for the reply. I was just looking at the Brother 7040 multi-function machine. It's a printer/copier/scanner. Since I don't need the fax function it looked pretty good. I'll check out the 9420 as well.

I like the fax function. Sometimes its quicker to just pop something in the fax and type in the number then scanning and uploading it into myfax. I actually like myfax for the receiving of faxes more then the sending of them. The 9420 is quite a bit more expensive the the 7040 as it is a color laser printer as well. I wanted something a little more robust then your average laser as this is the main copier for my little office. Though will more electronic ways of doing things I don't have to copy much anymore.

I have the Brother 7040 and works very well. Main feature I like is the multipage feeder for scanning docs. (up to 35 pages) Does not print color so have separate color printer.

One of the reasons I want to switch to a service like myFax is so I won't need the dedicated line though I can see what yu mean about it being easier sometimes.

Gordoned you can just use a regular line for those normal faxing moments unless you don't have a landline at all. Just don't tell anyone to fax to that number.
