you never get anywhere by working for someone else
Some might think we are independent; but please bear in mind that even after you are an Independent Broker . . . . you're still working to serve others: Namely the General Public as represented by the Secretary of State in your Jurisdiction; supervised by your Real Estate Commission; monitored by your Sellers and your Buyers; always in accordance with HUD and EPA; the NAR, your State REALTORŪ Association, and local Boards; plus a few Banks and Mortgage Companies; and the Rules and Regulations associated with being in the MLS.
Some still say that Real Estate in the USA is one of the most highly regulated industries in the World . . . . so don't let the word "independent" bring all kinds of warm and fuzzy thoughts of freedom come to your head. There are lots of entities watching over your every move telling you what you can and can't do.
Please note that I didn't even touch on how many other bosses you will have while doing your preliminary work as a SalesPerson under the auspices of a Broker who is going to take on the vicarious responsibility of supervising your work, and your interactions with other people.
Still, it might be the right vocation for you.
