I'm getting back into real estate after a couple of years. I use to work at a full service real estate office and I would do the loans as well as the real estate side of a transaction for my clients. On the loan end I would hardly make any money and would only do loans my clients could handle, usually 30-year fixed. Any money made on the loan transaction would usually go back to the buyer. I would buy them a washer/dryer, new tv, etc. and I would make good money off of the real estate transaction.

I'm now working at an office I love that will only allow me to work the real estate side of a transaction. And I don't really like our in house mortgage officer. He doesn't return my clients calls and I don't get a good vibe from him. Also, most of my clients are spanish speaking and he doesn't speak the language. I've done a couple of deals and my clients have ended up going to a local bank and getting the loan themselves. How do I go about finding an honest loan officer that is going to treat my client with respect and isn't going to rip them off. It's not that I don;t want them to make any money but charging at least 2 points for a full doc loan is a bit harsh. TIA

Call a couple escrow officers who handled a closing you were involved with. Ask for names of three loan officers they dealt with that they were impressed with. Or switch to a broker who wears two hats.
