My wife will be traveling to CA (san diego) for her work at 12-13 weeks at a time, several times a year. I plan on going with her each time. This is a short time to develop any real business but I thought maybe I could work as a buyers agent and hopefully get at least 1 deal per trip. Any other ideas?

Interesting if not unusual. You'll have to learn the layouts of the area really quickly so you can lead buyers around. I think the tough part will be finding a broker who is comfortable with the arrangement. Also, it may take a little more effort to have a rapport with buyers, who may be a bit leery once they learn that you are only a part-timer in the area.

I guess it could work if you find the right arrangement. I assume you are not going to concentrate on prospecting for leads from scratch. Or are you? Sounds like you will work buyer leads provided to you. You'd need really hot leads to work with -- someone wanting to buy right now. Nothing to lose on your part -- the broker will only give you a few buyer leads to work with. If you don't get someone under contract, you probably won't get more leads handed to you.

...kind of what I was thinking..oh well. Maybe I could get a job as a leasing agent somewhere or help a larger agent with their marketing...

Who will tend to your business in the Mid-West while you're away? How will they survive? I think you should stay home where people need you.

CaveMan could look in on your Wife while she's out there and do a periodic, you know, Occupancy Check.

You could also refer some leads to some of the better agents in the area for a referral fee and let them do all the work. Of course, you could make the referral either using your current license, or with a CA license.
