Has anyone every submitted a RFP to offer brokerage services? If so, did you do it yourself or hire a proposal writer? I am interested in any advice or experiences you have had. Thanks in advance.

Can you add a little detail so we know the context? Are you trying to get corporate business or develop a relationship with a government entity or what? Are you offering buying and selling services? residential? commercial? industrial? leasing? property management? escrow? title? relocation? loan origination?

I've done one for aquisition of residential property for a non profit organization. I did it myself with the blessing of my Broker. He proof read it signed off on it. We made it to the top 3 but they selected another agency.

Basically take it one step at a time. They ask for specific material thats what you give them, step by step. They should provide the format, follow theri format. No fluff, just what they are looking for.

Years ago I reviewed FRPs for computer equipment contracts. If it was not in the specific format they were eliminated. There were to many to go through to read them all so that was the initial weeding out.

RealtyPro:
Did you ask whoever it is that you will be submitting to if they have specific criteria for the RFP or a sample RFP for you to look over? That would be a good place to start.

^ Caveman an RFP is a specific document asking for bids for service. Its a consideration for contract, they ask contractors to bid.

Yes I know but RealtyPro gave us very little facts. For all we know, he could have heard word of mouth that an entity was asking for RFPs for services and he hasn't yet obtained the RFP criteria. As you mentioned in your example about computers, RFPs that didn't meet the criteria were rejected. In fact if RealtyPro had the RFP criteria and if it was detailed, I would be surprised if he would be posting his question.

His original question was should I hire a proposal writer. My anser is no. There are people who specilize in such things, it usually involves grants though. If a Company or Government entitiy is requesting an RFP, its solicited, there are specific requirements. Once the RFP is out you have until a specified date to submit.

They are not hard to do, just be willing to back up what you say as that is what the contacts will be based on. Its basically a resume with specific requirements.

Hey all, it is in fact an RFP, so yes it does have specific requirements. But the situation was a little misleading. Its a "Request for Proposals for Real Estate Brokerage services". My Broker approached me about it and said after "much consideration", I'd be the one they'd (the company) would like to submit a proposal. After reading it, I found that preference is being given to MBE/WBE/DBE certified businesses, which I do have for my cleaning company. It's really not that hard, just time consuming which is why I asked for opinions about getting a grant writer. I have done this before for my cleaning business so....

The other question I had was if this can be awarded to an agent or does the BROKERAGE need to be MBE/WBE/DBE certified, which it seems to me to be the case. I'm awaiting response from the contact person on that. No one seems to know, including my Broker!

The RFP is about 80 pages of fluff!!!
