I am a 19 year old taking real property appraisal in college. I want to start my own real estate company. I was hoping include property management and appraisals as well as sales for services. I am planning to work as an agent to get a feel for the industry. Any tips or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

High risk in that real estate sector for appraisal and property management.

Work a few years to get your feet wet first before starting your own.

You are young and time is on your side.

I say stick to one of those specialties. Appraisals, property management, and sales. Each are their own beast. If you concentrate on all of them you won't be an expert in any of them. Especially at first. I own my own little company for the time being and I just do sales. Appraisals interest me, but then I would have to work for someone else for quite a while to be able to do it on my own. I've done sales for 9 years and I still don't know all that much about property management. It's a different specialty. I have no interest in property management. I somewhat dislike managing reo listings and those are vacant. Most successful property managers in my area do not do much in the way of sales if any. And vice versa.
