First, let me say I am NOT a technology whiz- I am lucky to be able to check my email and create simple flyers on microsoft publisher. I recently bought a Yahoo web-hosting package, in which I am supposed to be able to build my own site with their free sitebuilder software. well, i downloaded it both at home and at work, but every time Ive tried to run it, i get error messages and it won't run. Consequently, I have wasted a week that should have seen some progress on getting it built. has anyone used the sitebuilder or have any suggestions for me? keep it simple, as I don't understand computerese very well...
Thanks!

First let me say... this may get spammy, so feel free to delete it or ignore it...

I feel for you, and have no advice on getting Yahoo site builder to work. But I do have advice for you on getting your real estate website built. Have someone do it FOR you! (here's where it gets spammy...) For only $12.95 per month, we'll build, maintain, and update your website FOR YOU. You can do all you can do yourself, or you can just pick up the phone and have us do it for you.

Sorry...

I had tried a site builder once, it was like, ho hum. If your hung on using a builder, I'd recommend giving your local college a call and have them turn it into a school project. Or reaccess your needs and hire someone to do it.

I'd love to hire someone, but at the $800+ that I've been quoted, I'll figure it out myself! I broke down and contacted Yahoo...they will send it to me on disc, and that should solve the problems.
I did get it working at home, but don't have much time here to work on it. At work I keep getting an error message about not being able fo find Java runtime environment or that it cannot access the jre files. I may have to just work on it over the weekends here!
Greg, I'll loo at your site and see if what you offfer is viable for me...

zephyr, I just had teh same problem! But I've had sitbuilder for six months and simply tried to download the newest version. It wiped out my files that I had already set up. to say the least I was ticked. It all had to do with java. I attempted to retry after downloading the latest update of java, but kept getting an error message when the sitbuilder install got to the java portion. so I went to my laptop and downloaded java, then downloaded sitebuilder and was able to install it on my laptop. what a mess! but I will say it is a good tool once you have it. keepdaveonxm.com is the site I set up with it. it is very user friendly and you don't need any technical skills to know how to use it. I think it will only work with hosting from yahoo, though I may be wrong. yahoo hosting is a fairly good deal, 20 bucks a month for more space then I would ever use. I am about to change my web page in to a real estate page, since what I originally setup is no longer needed. So I just thought you would like to know you were not the only one who felt like kicking your pc and cursing at yahoo! but if you do get it squared away, it is a pretty good program.

you should get a point2agent website - you can have it for free, and looks great. Check out my site for an idea. If you would like an invite for the free membership, drop me a email.

Okay- i haven't followed up with this like I should have... I finally got it up and running, though i admit it probably needs "more." If anybody would like to check it out and give me your input, I would really appreciate it! I don't have any decent agent photos yet (working on that) and only have 4 listings right now (yeah, that sucks). I just wanna know if there are any additions I need to make, or if I'm not clear on key points, etc. Any feedback would help, I'm sure!
Thanks!

I like your site. Can you change the REO button to Foreclosure? I am not sure many people other than Realtors know what REO stands for. I know a lot of agents that don't even know. Is this a Point2Agent site? If so you can share other agents listings or you can look into adding IDX feed to load the entire MLS. (At least you can here in CA.)

Margaret, Thanks for the feed back! I guess it's easy to assume that everyone knows the same things we do. i probably will change the REO button... it's not a point2agent site- it was done from Yahoo sitebuilder software and hosted by yahoo. I am trying to get the BOR secretary to call me back and let me know about the IDX thing here and about putting a link to the mls on it. It is a work in progress, so i appreciate any ideas I can get!

Hi,
I have also heard that many other people have trouble with SiteBuilder. There are a few other companies that offer website builder + hosting packages for a new website.

One free option is Open-Realty.com. This website is completely free and will cost you no more then $20 to have it installed and running.

Good luck.

zephyr, wow, great URL, I can't believe no one ever thought of "thatrealestatesite.com" before. Its catchy and people will remember it. In the end, that's what counts.
