Stupidity of real estate agents

I haven't been here for quite some time, due to the fact I've recently started another business dealing with something outside of real estate, but I wanted to post this.
In late 2007 I decided to start a real estate blog, over the course of time, I was eventually ranked for several high-volume keywords in the REO field. Over 2008 I really started to do pretty well with getting sales and leads from the blog by talking about REO properties.
Having said this though , I've had one problem throughout blogging.......the sheer volume of agents that call me BEGGING for help.
See , My website was, and still is for the most part one of the first results when people type in REO departments, asset management keywords and the like ,and instead of READING THE BLOG which gives out contact information and the like on how to obtain REO listings , they instead call me immediately after hitting the blog, not reading the website, and then GET MAD AT ME BECAUSE I AM NOT A BANK.
See , I've had a minimum of 250 agents call me under the assumption that when they click on the #1 result of Google , yahoo or whatever search engine is online that it will automatically give them the answer they look for, without reading on the page. Yes , I've added every single disclaimer and line I can think of to tell them i'm not a bank , and only work on a limited basis with them , but they still get mad at me when I ask them politely to read the blog.
It's very interesting to me how few agents understand search engines, the internet and the like because since getting involved in real estate, I've met quite a few people with massive bankrolls that would absolutely love to take agents commissions (Imagine all your online lead sources removed, then sold back to you) yet one of the only things keeping them from doing so is state laws.....it's a interesting world out there, and unless a lot of agents get educated over the next 1-3 , many more will be out of jobs.
Thus ends my rant.

So if anyone on this board is calling The First National Bank of Schlichter.....stop it!! I've always wanted to be the personal slave to the person that invented voice mail. Just don't know if I could live without it. You have 250 new messages. My rant. BigC

Yes, agents and many other people do not understand search engines. I have kind of the same problem. If you type in my company name I come up first in google and basically as the business showing the map were my office is located. They don't bother to click the web link to my website. Normally it is agents looking for another agent. When I tell them I'm an agent and that I need to give them the main office number they seem all confused. They say "Well, I search Keller Williams blah blah blah ...." Sorry that I know how to SEO and have to put my brokers name down. Yeah, some people won't learn. If I were you I would mess with some of the agents and tell them they will have a lot of REO listings on the way.

Had 3 emails today asking for listings, Sounds like you need to start selling something like an ebook to them. It will drive some of them away and some of them will pay.

That is just like when we get the people trying to sell us something... they always ask for Mr. Keller Williams.... mmmm... I guess that doesnt give them away as a salesperson... just a little research and understanding would greatly help people...
but I am always saying that stupidity should be painful... of course there would be a lot of people walking down the street saying "Ouch..."

This Google Custom search may do a better job of searching the forums for some keywords than the old forum search does. The results do not include threads from the Asset Managers Forum however. To search that forum you will need to be actually in the Asset Managers Forum and you will need to use the old forum search below.
