Is anyone thinking about purchasing a Netbook (mini laptop.) If so, what brand?

I am thinking of getting my daughter a Dell - but I am concerned because the battery life for Dells seems to stink. She is going to be assisting me over the summer by copying/pasting emails to my sellers with statistics, showing info, etc.

I wouldn't mind having one myself to keep at the office so I don't have to lug mine all over creation. Can you put software on them like Realfast Forms? That is probably the only thing I want on it, besides our tax record program....

I bought one and it's great. It's an HP, cost me $279 off of ebay. The only thing is that the type is so small it hurts my eyes to look at it for long periods of time. I bought it go in my truck and upload pics on the fly..it works great for that. It does not have a CD drive to add software but downloads fine.

Nova - you can change those settings so the fonts on the screen is larger.

Also, you can hit "alt +" to zoom in on your web-browser or most emails.

I have an Acer netbook I bought from Costco for around $300. I bought it and a wireless card to put in my truck. Works great for quick MLS searches. I'm looking to buy a stand to mount it like police cars do.

I have the Acer too, and haven't utilized it to it's fullest, just because I haven't synched my Outlooks. That's on my to-do list - about #274. Maybe I should move it up on the list! For now, I will just keep myself tethered to the big one. wink

ditch outlook and move over to google apps. you'll be much happier for it...and won't have to worry about syncing anything, or if you get a new computer, or your hard drive crashes, or.... yeah...all of those potential issues go away.

You can download them onto your machine AND leave them on the server....

...or you can download them on the machine and lremove them from the server so that when / if your hard drive crashes, you can lose them along with everything else...lol. wink

I did a bunch of research and played with many of the netbooks out there before ordering one. I decided to go with the Asus Eee PC 1000HA because it has a great keyboard, SD card reader, webcam and awesome battery life (6-7 hours).

Asus is the best one out in my opinion. Close 2nd is Lenovo (IBM).

I am thinking about buying a netbook. Do not know where to start. I would like one that works pretty much like my laptop. Is it better to get one that has the wireless card built in, like the AT&T one, or do you just get one without signing up for a service and just connect from whatever wireless network may be near? (I am not a computer tecky, so forgive me if I am not explaining clearly) I just need something so I do not have to lug my laptop around but still be able to do everything I need to do.

Netbook-HAHAHAHAHAHA! I was de-virusing my neighbors HP netbook the other day when I noticed it has a cutout on the corner for a lanyard AKA, keychain!

First of all I personally couldn't live with one, they are WAY too small. I placed it on top of my 15.4" Toshiba, which is the bigger of my laps and it covered exactly half of it.

But other than that, I would be concerned about whether they are upgradable, mainly RAM. I think thats why they come installed with XP. The one I tried was maxed at I think 1GB, and had only two USB slots, and NO built-in disk drive. So, you can transfer programs with a flash drive but you'll need to get a external USB DVD drive to install programs and reinstall Windows. It did have built in WIFI and I think Verizon G3.

Also they use solid state hard drive, so its like a large flash drive, and they aren't cheap either.

I like the size of my new HP DV4 with 14" screen, 4GB memory upgradable to 8GB, 220GB HD. The only think I don't like is its geared for entertainment so it has stupid stuff like a remote control and HDMI port to watch TV, stuff like that. Its compact and fairly light too.
