If you decide to get your license, you're much better off taking whatever business crosses your path, at least at first. I promise you - you'll be as tickled with a $100,000 condo buyer as you will be with a $500,000 home buyer. There's a steep learning curve, and there's absolutely no reason to try to specialize in something before you have any hope of actually being a specialist. People who own high-end properties usually prefer that their agent have some experience, both in general real estate AND with high-end sales. It's not that there's a whole lot of difference between the two ends of the spectrum, selling a house is selling a house and sometimes the cheap stuff can be more difficult to sell than the luxury stuff.
But get some experience first - whereever you can get it - before you try to focus on any particular niche.
