Hi, I am a member of a real estate office in Brisbane Australia and we are trying to implement Top Producer 6i into the office. However, we have run into a few problems that we are struggling to fix. If anyone can help that would be great.

The first problem we have found is there is a confilct with Norton Anti Virus. While Norton is running, we can not "check in" or "check out". If we disable Nortons "auto protect" we can use Top Producer with out any problems. Is there any other way we can get around this so we don't have to disable Norton?

The second issue is we are loosing data when we "check in". We have a dedicated windows 2000 server running Top Producer and all of our PC's and laptops are running XP. I was told this may cause a problem. Can anyone help?

Regards
Bob

Bob,
See that you did not get any help. I am not a Top Producer user. I do know that Norton can have conflicts with certain software. Is the Norton program one that can be used for server application? If so, maybe a different antivirus program should be looked into. Have you checked to see if there is a top producer forum or newsgroup out there where you can get answers?

Thanks Jim, we have moved to another anti-virus software and all is working fine. However, we are still loosing data. We are even considering changing from Top Producer to another system.

Can anyone recommend another content management system that is easier to use / setup than Top Producer.

Thanks
Bob

Top Producers latest product (7i) is pretty nice depending on your situation. For a single agent $35 a month with ~4 major upgrades a year is well worth it (to me anyway) to stay on the cutting edge and be able to access my data litterally anywhere I can get a connection to the net.

Sounds like you are trying to implement an office wide networked version of 6i however which would make 7i a costly proposition. You may want to look into a networked version of ACT with a real estate plug in. ACT is pretty robust but I haven't used the real estate plug ins so I don't know how nice they are.

TP is a shoddily written program.
I have had the displeasure of working with TP almost monthly as I am a computer specialist with a Mother in Real Estate.
These guys are rip-off artist. They put out Upgrades every year that cost a bundle, not to mention the outrageous cost of “tech” support for a program that runs like Montezuma’s revenge.

Better yet, you have Palm support for TP. I spoke with a “tech” named Mike last week. I asked mike about some of the problems the Real Estate computer was having hot syncing. Mike tells me after a few questions about my internet connection that the software from the router was causing the problem with the serial COM port.
Mike informed me that my Lynksys router had put software on the computer that was interfering with normal operation.
OK. My router, which runs PERL installed software on my box running XP. There is no PERL interpreter on XP. Meaning Mike is full of it.

Not only does this program not take advantage of built in MS API’s, (application program interface) the crap they put in its place (as in the flyer applet) crashes the whole system quite often. This is on a 1.8Gig Proc. with 512MB RAM.

I cannot believe these guys. They are such liars.
Good luck with TP, and do the world a favor. Post the serial numbers from your old versions of TP on newsgroups and forums. Someone should at least get some use from this piece of garbage.

Side Question:

I have seen some literature on Top Producer. Am I understanding it correctly if I say that:

1) The program is an online program
2) If you do not pay the monthly fee, you don't have access to all of your contact information that you have stored in this online system?

How can you be sure your contacts and information are not being shared by the owners of the software?

Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.
