I have two computers that are networked. Both computer have Microsoft XP Home edition. I use one computer to store files from other computer. Was interested in knowing if anyone knew of a good, inexpensive file backup program. Presently I have been using Windows Explorer to transfer files to 2nd computer, but it is tedious and slow. I looked into microsoft transfer files option and too many limitations and problems. Any input would be welcomed.

XP Pro has a nice backup utility that comes with it, makes it easy to automate dumping files to another location. I'm not sure if XP home has it however because Pro is more for networked machines.

This is another utility that may work for you if Home edition doesn't have the backup program:

Thanks AndersonEdge. I will look into the utility in your link.

I have heard from others recently that a seamless way to backup data is to install another hard drive that would automatically "mirror" the primary drive.

I just downloaded the program and installed it. After the initial run, it took only about 30 seconds to do all of my backup routines to my network drive with a click of a button. Before using Windows Explorer, it took me about 1 hour between manually configuring and the slow process times.

Thanks again AndersonEdge!

My Pleasure Jim,

Mirrored hard drives like you mentioned are a good solution (sometimes) too if the concern is about having a disk fail but it's not a really good "backup" per say because if the one drive is poluted with bad data the other one mirrors it and where's your backup then?
