What do you all think of making mini sites to cover all those long tail keywords. I am not a realtor, but I have some real estate domain names that I am considering making into mini sites that can be monetized through google or affiliate links. Once I have a network of couple of hundred sites then I might consider selling ad space to others for the sites that get high rankings on the search engines, some of my domains already get natural type-in traffic, but I am hoping that the traffic will increase once they are indexed by the search engines. It’s easier to get high rankings for long tail domains especially if they are geo specific (like City+LuxuryHomes , or City+RealEstateListings). I have heard that domains with .com and .US extensions have the best chances of getting high rankings for the exact keywords, that’s why most of my domains are .com and .US , and I specially like .US because there are still much better quality keywords available in that extension.

I just made my first mini site www.SuperLuxuryHomes.com , it took me only a couple of hours to put this site up at Noomle.com . (I can make it look better by adding more stuff later on.)

By the way if you are interested in purchasing any of the domains currently listed on my site at PerfectDomains.US you are welcomed to email me an offer at [ojohn@sbcglobal.net] . Thanks, ojohn

I like using the sub domains, they look nice and clean. I'm not sure what the search engines think of them.

I am not sure if they get any preference in the search engines, but I have thought of making some sub domains with “ forsale.us “ which I am planning to develop in the near future.

I like the way these look:

homes.forsale.us
condos.forsale.us
realestate.forsale.us

I think it is a pretty good idea for Realtors to create niche sites to cover long tails. I'm not sure how profitable it would be for you (non licensed) to create these sites and just rely off of adsense ads. Maybe I am under estimated the amount you can make.

While this can be a good idea, you really need to keep in mind that making mini-sites may take more time than you think. Granted, they can help you generate traffic on long-tail terms, but at the same time, you have to earn those higher rankings on the SERPs. This includes continuously providing value-added content, and using various onsite and offsite optimization tactics. While it may not seem like much work up front, it could be quite a chore if you make a lot of these sites on your own.

^ very true. I was starting to create several "blogs" for area communities - and soon realized that it was ridiculous. I was going to post into one general blog, then into each blog with a relevant post - nutso.

As of now I can’t tell you for sure how this will turnout, but once some of my minisites start ranking high on the search engines for some of the corresponding long tail keywords then in addition to using AdSense I can also use some affiliate programs or even sell ad space directly to advertisers myself (maybe I can get some agents here to advertise with me smile ). Although these are called minisites, but they can be expanded into everything that a full-fledged website has to offer for the ones that rise to the top later on. The place that I use to make my minisites (noomle.com) is very easy to work with and it’s all free. The articles get rotated randomly for each site so there is always fresh content for return visitors. As far as how much time and effort it might take to handle a network of a few hundred minisites I think that’s the least of my worries since if I ever get to that level I will probably outsource some of the work.

Here are some more minisites that I have just made:

I checked some of your content and it seems to be copied from other websites. So, don't expect your sites to ever start ranking high in the search engines if you made them with duplicate content.

That’s actually part of my future plans, but for now I believe that I can get some of my minisites to rank high for certain long tail keywords since I don’t have to compete with a million people for a spot on the first page. I also have domain names in other categories that I am going to make minisites for.

Here is one that I just made:

www.WashingtonDcPersonalInjuryAttorney.com

If I were a realtor I would get every long tail domain (with a popular extension) that has a logical sequence of keywords that relates to my area of operation (like City or region) and my field of expertise (like commercial real estate, or luxury homes) and I would build a network of websites (or minisites) that would target longer (perhaps even more obscure, but usable) keywords. This can give the benefit of having less competition to deal with on the search engines, but still has the potential to attract targeted visitors which might be easier to turn into serious clients. IMO

That’s the whole point, SEO is very difficult and time consuming if you want to rank high for the most obvious and popular keywords. That’s why I am focusing more on long tail domains and more obscure keywords. smile

Just a follow up,

I just registered the domain name: www.NewYorkCityRE.com

I was surprised to see that it was available. I still think that agents might benefit from registering (or buying) every good domain name that relates to Real estate in their city or region. Off course this is just my opinion, others might disagree.

I you are lucky enough to have a website that gets a lot of visitors then you might not see any need for getting any other domain names, but for those who don’t get enough leads having 10, 25, or even 50 different domains that have the potential to generate targeted visitors for them might be considered a good alternative. IMO

Personally, I don't see much benefit from having 50 different domain names - if none of them rank worth a darn in the first place.

Unless of course you are doing some sort of traditional marketing campaign (mail, flyers, ads in local papers, etc), to try and drive traffic to those sites. But even then, you are probably better off getting consumers used to going to XYZ.com - and having subpages for those respective areas on 1 site, than trying create a marketing reputation and branding with 50. My 2 cents. smile

Here is an example of what I am talking about:

(LexingtonKentuckyProperty).com

Which was available to register as of this posting.

Google Keyword Tool shows that there were approx. 2900 searches for this exact term in March (with 1300 overall average monthly searches).

There are hundreds of similar domains for small to medium size cities that are not being utilized by agents in their corresponding regions which if properly used can bring in many targeted visitors which in turn can be made into serious leads. IMO
