I had to drive a 1997 Jeep Cherokee for almost a year once, and my business must have dropped by 30%. Sad but true, people do judge you by your car.

If you are going to put buyers in your car, you should be driving a minivan.

I drive a Honda CRV for my main vehicle. If I have to drive a larger group I use the wife's Chevy Traverse.

Hey John! Just traded my 2009 Chevy Traverse for a 2015 Kia Forte. I will miss the towing capability, and the Traverse was a VERY comfortable vehicle to drive, and at 142000 miles I definitely drove it! But the transmission was quickly dying, and the gas mileage was never even close to advertised---the absolute best we were ever able to get was 21 under optimum conditions--most of the time it was 17-18, even under highway conditions.

Hey 75, I hear you. I try to always use the CRV unless I need to haul or transport multiple people. The CRV get's in the high 20's for gas mileage and is great for MN winters.

Men typically judge you by your outward appearance. In anycase, Make sure that your car speaks well about what you do and not necessarily what you are. Good-luck!

I'm probably an oddball when it comes to cars. I have a 1994 Mercedes that I have driven now for 14 years. It has 183k on the clock (which is low) and is my daily driver. It is nearly immaculate and people are shocked when they find out how old it is.

My wife's car is a 1997 Camry that we have owned for 15 years. It has 235k miles and I still take it up in the mountains, and for long trips.

I do take the Benz for client meetings, because the Toyota isn't aging as well.

We will probably buy a "new" (I only buy used) car this year. I'm not sure what yet, but I want it to be one that lasts ten years at least. Although both cars run continue to run great.

I, too, have only purchased used cars for the past 3 cars (15 yrs?). Getting older, it's more difficult to get up and out and down and in from a car so I finally purchased a 2015 Subaru Forester July 2014. The seats are really comfortable and it has leg room for guys - really! I don't have a bunch of bells and whistles on mine. My only requirement was a stick-shift which they had to drive 400 miles to bring me. In the summer, I averaged 28 mpg, but winter is giving me only 27 mpg (both highway/city combined). I wished the mpg were higher as my prior, 2001 Saturn was running at 33 mpg. I love the AWD on it and the Bluetooth feature. I tested a 2014 Mazda suv (can't remember the name). It's view out the rear and rear side windows was limited. The Subaru Forester gives a great view through all the windows. The salesman for the Mazda told me their windows were smaller for safety reasons. I told the Subaru salesman that with Mazda's smaller windows, I was bound to have a safety problem right there. It's the windows that sold me. And, yes, I'll be keeping it at least 10 years (I hope). You need to check out the new Subaru Dog-Tested/Dog Approved commercial - it's great!

I have 2 cars- a 2012 Honda Civic Natural gas vehicle, which gets 33 MPG, the natural gas costs about $2.05 a gallon, and you can drive slo in the car pool lane, which is priceless. The Civic has a sticker price of $26,000, which I bought used from the Honda dealer for $18,000...with 2200 only miles on it- The second car is for meting clients...A 2007 Range Rover, which a bought used from the dealer on a lease trade-in. The Rover looks brand new...Both cars are paid off.

Couldn't agree more with comments here. As a realtor, if you drive anything but a luxury, new car, you have some explaining to do!

Anyone out there with a newer Forrester? I mentioned in a previous post I have a 2015 Subaru Forrester. Well, the danged thing likes to eat OIL! And not cheap oil either. I probably put 2 extra quarts in it between oil changes. I read some posts on the internet and others say theirs also eats oil.

The manual says I can use the 5W oil if necessary and I asked Jiffy Lube to change it to that of which they refused. I will have to take to the dealer's service center (ugh! They are a 45 minute drive) and see if they will as maybe a thicker oil would work better. I'm talking about an extra $20 or so between oil changes EVERY time. This is ridiculous!

What's the expensive Oil that Subaru says you have to use ?

Is that required to keep the Warranty in force ?

I have a 2015 Fiat electric car. In California, it is not typical to put clients in our cars.
I so far have enjoyed running on electricity. In some parts of the area I work, places offer free charging...Such as whole foods, local gyms. etc.
I also think it is very trendy here to go electric so that is why I made it my main RE car. Clients seem to like it and they are not "cheap" cars at 33k they are right in the middle range.
What is great about them? In CA they offer incentives so I got a lease for 3 years at $150 a month! Plus no oil changes or service needed, just rotate tires. Time saver for sure.
Anyways that is what I use now. Been using it for 3 months now....
