Just bought my wife a Garmin 2720, but really haven't put it to the test yet.

Jflynn ...

Where did you get the gps for the treo from? I have looked into adding that to my phone as well.

Do you have it secured to your dash or some other set up? Is it audible enough or do you just glance at it to see when to turn. The speaker on my Treo isn't too loud.

Thanks,

Mike

The one I have decided on is the Garmin Nuvi350 it is portable, audible, and is small as a deck of cards.

Have had a Garmin Streetpilot 2610 for 2 years and it's been great! Once in a while, I have a "Difference of Opinion" on the route it wants me to take, but in an instant, it reacts and gets me to where I want to go.

BUT technology moves on, and I'm now looking for a "Voice Command" system that actually works, many are just now coming on the market. I deal with a lot of Buyers with little kids, (" seat problems") etc. and consequently they need to "follow me" in their own car so my plan is to give them the Streetpilot so we don't get lost. This should do a couple of things, 1. As it takes virtually no time (typically to show "wifey" how to punch in the next address,)even if we get separated, they can find their own way. 2. It's a psycological thing, they know this is not a "throw away tool", and the fact that I don't plan to take it back at the end of the day, should generate a lot of loyalty!! 3. If this works on my first Buyer I try it on, I'll be on E-Bay looking to pick up a bunch more of used units!!!

When do you plan on getting this tool back? I like the idea a lot. At only a few hundred dollars for some of the cheaper units ... that's a great one!

Of course I still need to get something for me first ... but can see the benefit. I had often thought of a strange colored battery operated light to put on my car as the lead car to help with following me at night ... this would eliminate that need!

Since I have an auto desk in the front seat, its an swell 2nd office desk in the car already, I just opted for the MS streets & maps by Delorme with gps via usb to laptop. Yes the laser printer goes with me too.

Through trial and error I have come to know what not to do. Limited access roads are avoided. When taken altogether, I have a map file for the day, the route and the cost based on updated fuel and preferences. A great way to document the traveling for any auditor. The second to the first time used, from Five Star Conference in Dallas to Wichita, I came in doing KS inspections orders near the OK border but was backing up a 1/2 mile after the blacktop turned to limited access! Even so I keep the Delorme Gazzette in the seat pouch & have the clie' with the maps as a back-up. Always have plans A B C ready to go.

What can I say...I am a cheap date...and I am gps for dummies.
