Ok so here is the situation...

Me and my partner have been looking into preservation work. We have most of the equipment that we think we'll need, ie; trucks, trailer, tools for minor repair work, etc.

What we are wondering is what is the best way for us to get in to this business. We have been looking into starting our own business but have limited capital to work with. What would it take for us to start a small business? What licenses and insurances are needed? IS this even realistic? ;)

We would appreciate any advice, answers or just a general nudge in the right direction that anyone is willing to take the time to provide.

Thanks in Advance and God bless!

It is not realistic. If you don't know how to start a small business you have no chance, especially if you don't have any money. Go talk to a lawyer about starting your business, and then move on to using the search button here.

Wow. Another hearty welcome to a new member. Incredible.

What is it with all the PP members these days?

Welcome, VAGuy. Don't let anyone here scare you off. But, yes to the search feature. There's tons of good information here that just might help you find what you're looking for.

I've found that SBA has a lot of general information about starting a business. I also found a lot of information from Nolo.com. The Secretary of State (for your state) should have more specific guidelines for the specific type of business, as well as your county. I can't offer much assistance for the PP company, specifically as I haven't worked in that area.

This post was not helpful. He said limited capital not no capital.

I like the suggestion about contacting your local SBA office. You could also watch the foreclosure listings and see which agent/brokerage is listing them. You could visit their office and see if you may be able to provide your services to them.

The search feature should be used first. There is a wealth of information in this topic.

Whatever Greg. That post was the most helpful post he'll ever get. You're kidding yourself if you think you can start a preservation business with limited capital. I just have a different answer to his question than you do. I wasn't trying to be mean, just honest.
