We are moving later this spring and would ideally like to buy when we get to our next duty station (San Antonio). The main thing that is giving me pause is that we'll likely only be in San Antonio for about three years. I know other soldiers and sailors buy everytime they get to a new duty station but I don't know if it's the market or what but I'm nervous. Any advice?

Also, there are a number of owner financed homes in the area that we're interested in. What is the general concensus on owner financing?

San Antonio is one of the best markets in the country - I would invest in the area myself. Texas in general has fared very well and our major markets continue to expand and real estate sales have stayed strong.

As for owner financing, you will generally pay more than if you use traditional financing. I would only use that option if your credit is weak or if you can secure a better deal than you can through FHA, VA or conventional financing.
