Are utility bills public info? I have a client that wants to know what the utilities run on a currently vacant home. Thanks for the help.

Just call the utility companies. Whether they tell you or not will depend on who answers the phone and how nicely you ask.

Since the house is vacant, it should be no problem to find out what the "base rate" is.
Even owner occupied utility usage is available to prospective buyers where I am.
But we have it easy, only one phone call to the city owned utility company and they'll tell you about gas, water, electric and wastewater usage per address.

My Mom & Dad have their house listed and an interested party wanted to know what the bills had run for the past 12 months. I called the electric company and the gas company and they faxed me the information and I sent it over to our agent. Why couldn't you just call the owner and get the info. that way?

Base rate will be useless as the home has been vacant and the minimum power has been used if at all.Same with water usage,gas,etc.

Find out when it became vacant and get them to pull the records for when it was occupied to get the average bills.if they don't have that get the averages for the subdivision or street.

It will also depend on how effecient the untis are in that house,there age,and if they have ever been serviced.
