I will be starting my Real Estate classes shortly here in Montreal Canada.

The Real Estate Agent program consists of five credit courses, for a total of 240 hours.

* 415-771-87 - Real Estate Appraisal I
* 415-772-94 - Real Estate Law I
* 415-774-87 - Real Estate Mathematics I
* 415-779-94 - Real Estate Brokerage Act
* 415-780-94 - Drafting Contracts & Documents

I plan on moving to Hawaii where most of my family lives. I'm just curious to know how the system works in Hawaii with regards to acquiring your Real Estate license.

First I will need a green card... then??

If you are moving soon why are you taking classes in Canada? Most states do not have reciprocal licensing to my knowledge. So if you get your Canadian real estate license, I doubt it will transfer and you'll wind up taking more classes in HI. On top of that, you might confuse yourself since the laws and norms of real estate are largely state and locally based. There are some underlying federal rules as well, but with the Canadian thing might confuse you on those issues as well. I'd wait.

I realize the real estate laws and norms are going to be totally different, and I am aware that you cannot JUST transfer real estate licenses...

I just want to prepare myself for next year, simply because the courses are a total of 240 hours here in Quebec. In other words 4 months intensive classes... Its nothing compared to 1 year courses...

That's why I ask if there is anyone from Hawaii on this board so I can get a glimpse of what to expect...

Im not in hawaii but I did pass my RE exam the first time after taking online courses. There are many good online educational programs available and it could save you a lot of time and money to go that route. Real Estate Express and ProSchools both have Hawaii exam prep programs. There is a lot of info on the hawaii.gov real estate page too. Good luck with your studying and your move.

Well my plans are strictly to work in Montreal at the moment. But, I have family in Hawaii investing and living and I have plenty of friends that would like to buy property in Hawaii.
