Speaking of real estate in the UK, I can't believe how agonizing the process is. The way I understand it, you show interest in a property, then it takes months for your lawyers to write up a contract, then it takes months after that to actually go through with the purchase.

I have to agree that sometimes it can be a real pain!
But if both buyer and seller are eager to sell the contract is usually straight forward.
The main problem (I think most U.K. residents would agree) is being in a chain.
