Politics - Who ARE You voting For?

I wrote this post this morning on my personal blog, inspired by an interview with voters in Harlem who support Obama - but they don't know his policies from McCain's. Visit my blog to hear the audio file. Some of them think Sarah Palin is Obama's running mate! What bothers me is that there are voters out there, on both sides, who have no clue why they are supporting their candidate - they just "are." This isn't a McCain vs. Obama, black vs. white, repub vs. dem, conservative vs. liberal issue. It's a basic common sense issue. How many voters are there going to be on Election Day who have NO clue WHY they are voting for their candidate - they just ARE, because he's white or black, liberal or conservative, young or old, charismatic or a war hero?

I'm a registered republican and I early voted today for Obama. I don't like McCain's plan to deal with the mortgage crisis. As a real estate agent that is the issue that affects my everyday life the most.

I will be considering the candidates position on a number of issues beyond how their plans effect my business.

Nothing against the possibility of a woman as president (many other nations have had very good female leaders), but as a New Yorker I am very glad that Hillary was not the nominee. Frankly I wish she would go back to Arkansas but she is too well known there to do that.

Don't tell anyone; but . . . .
I just finished my voting by Absentee for Bob Barr for President - Libertarian. I have absolutely NO FAITH in either of the Major Parties being able to solve our current problems at the National Level. We're just casting about like an enormous ship without a Rudder.
I voted for Peter Welch as our ONLY U.S. Rep. He appears on the Ballot as BOTH a Democrat and a Republican (we have so few people, they have to do double duty). Vermont is the only place I've ever lived where if a Major Party doesn't run its own Candidate, they may endorse the opposing Party's Person ! How cool is that ?
I voted for Douglas as our Gov - He's a Republican. In our Bi-Cameral State, both the House and the Senate are controlled by the Dems. Douglas is the only sane one down there.
No US Senators are running for re-election in Vermont - we already have a Socialist in Sanders and a Democrat in Leahy. I guess we just "Spread the Wealth Around."
I wasn't going to bother Voting; but my Wife had picked up the Ballots so we felt obliged to use them. If we go in person, it's 45 Miles Round trip.
I hope I made a difference ! Putting this in writing confirms, for me at least, how bizarre (or maybe even goofey) the process is "here". I'm sure everyplace has its own idiosyncrasies. I hope the rest of you can do a good job for US on Tuesday.

Ok, I think I am going to add my two cents in on this thread.
My problem with this year's election is that there will be a good percentage of people voting for one of the parties for ONLY one reason! Many people are going to vote for Obama JUST because he is black. Many people are going to vote for McCain JUST because he is white. This is a terrible way to vote and it will definitely screw up our country's election process!
The issue is that many of these people have no idea WHY they are voting for that party. I definitely think it is extremely ignorant and it will hurt our government.
In my opinion, I know who the lesser of the two evils is. I guess we'll see how everything ends up with Obama's birth certificate issue.

My point wasn't to find out who people were voting for but instead - do you KNOW who you are voting for.... This certainly has been an interesting race, but I am going to be SO glad when it's over. I'm sick of Joe the Plumber, I'm sick of wardrobe purchases, I'm sick of politicians coming to my area just because they think they can "woo" us with some visits during the campaign. Do these guys come back when they're elected??? Well, the clinton's did when Hillary's dad died...because they had a summer home here. WTH?

Well the CNN results are in with a decisive majority for Obama. It doesn't matter with you agree or diagree with that choice, our system of choosing will give us a chance to either ratify for a second term or replace the choice in another 4 years.

I am still wondering if the Supreme Court will still have a say in the elections. December 1 is not that far away.

It is because the sitting Supremee who dismissed the Berg lawsuit still set a December 1 date for the candidate elect to answer the allegation of Certificate of Live Birth: http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=80072

Not entirely happy Obama won, since I am a Republican, but it is what it is and I wish him the best for our country.
One thing is certain though, all Americans should be glad that John McCain will remain on the Senate and hopefully continue to play a huge role in getting our country back on track and keep us safe.
