Here in Florida, We are seeing more and more bank owned homes. Most of these homes do not have electricity turned on. We are coming into the hot summer months and I can't believe these homes are sitting there without the ac running. I think this is going to cause problems down the road with potential mold problems.

I am no expert but what I know it is not good to leave a home sitting in extreme heat. I was wondering what home inspectors thoughts were on this.

Being a Contractor and property preseravationist you are exactly right. Small leaks, heat can cause all types of damage. And most places spray bleach which is mostly water. The companies we use a biological agent which they say can kill HIV on contact. We have ran into a couple of homes that had spores all the way up the drywall.

I have been worried about the same problems with my vacant listings with no a/c or water. Especially now that hurricane season is just getting started. Anything you can do - short of getting electric back on - that will help?

I think you are absolutely right to be concerned. You should have contact info for a mold inspection company and a remediation company. In Texas, remediatiation techniques are dictated by the state, so check that as well.

That is crazy - I never heard about that before - especially now without electricity - it is good that at least someone die recognized that!
