Respected or annoying?

It was recently suggested to me to prospect expireds in the morning between 7:30am-9am and try to catch people before they go to work.

Does anyone have any information or experience with knocking on doors at an early hour?

I would be SO irritated with ANYONE who came to my door that early, but I come from the land of "we don't call anyone after 8 pm, and we certainly don't just pop in." You know, Emily Post Etiquette land.

I used to prospect expireds by just leaving a packet for them next to their morning paper. I think that would be better received than someone who shows up wanting to sell me something while I am trying to brush my teeth and get hypothetical kids off to school. And believe me, all they will think is that you are someone trying to sell something. If anything, just leave a packet and then you have a reason to call them later - to see that they received it.

I can see leaving a packet with the paper but I agree with TB. I would be a little angry if somebody called or knocked on my door so early. Mornings are busy, trying to get ready for work, get the kids ready for school, driving one to school, getting the oter to the bus stop. Looking for the wifes' keys as she never hangs them up. Somebody always spills the milk. The dog wants out, I need coffee, a fight errupts during teeth brushing between the kids.

I do have a .410 shotgun. I don't like people bugging me before I've had my coffee.

It would not look good though if I had to shoot the wife and kids over my coffee! Now if the sales person showed up with packed lunches, coffee, and some doughnuts I'd be cool woth that.

If we are not expecting anyone, we siimply don't answer the door, day or night. But to further what others have said, I would not want to be the one who appeared at my doorstep trying to sell me something during the morning circus.

Yeah, if you're going to prospect like that bringing everyone's coffee, donuts, and packed lunches for the kids would get you lots of listings! And if you could bring everyone's lost car keys, and the missing loafer I've been unable to find since last April, you might have a deal.

In the 1980's a new agent, about 65 years old, decided to concentrate on expired's. He would start calling at about 5am and then door knocking about 6am. He quickly became the #2 producer in a MLS with 7,000 members. I was in awe, but never had the guts to try it.

I would like to know that guy's script. I don't think I would do it. Although I'm up around then wishing other businesses and such were opening at 7 instead of 9. But here's a thought. Maybe people didn't like him calling or knocking on their door, but I bet they might remember him. Especially if he followed up later at a better hour.

Wow, I would almost kill someone if they were calling me at 5:00am! Someone calling me that early in the morning has no respect, considering they probably just ruined my day now that I will not be able to get back to sleep.

I would probably tell that person to come over and give me a listing presentation, then strangle them when they walk in. Calling people that early is no joke.

i have a tentative schedule and a hard schedule. my tentative schedule is a b level priority schedule and is only overruled by my pda which is a level activities.

for example.....at 11am i have to make calls for 1 hour. if i have nothing going on, that takes precedence. if i have a listing appointment, that overrules.

now at 530pm i have prospecting time set into my schedule again and that is more solid. i actually plan things around that.

as far as calling in the morning. i have and do make calls starting at 9am and i am greeted very warmly. the early bird gets the worms. i must say that any earlier than that and i would not feel comfortable calling someones home.

OMG...unless they are expected, I don't like anyone coming to my door AT ANY TIME (unless it's the little girl next door selling Girl Scout cookies). If someone rang my doorbell that early, when I had only been in bed approximately 4 hours, I would, at best, ignore it. You don't want to know the "at worst" outcome, but Perky has the right idea. ;-)
